Electrical Maintenance Engineer Location: Buxton area, Derbyshire Hours: Monday to Thursday, 6:00am to 3:00pm. This is an excellent opportunity to join a small, experienced engineering team within a complex heavy manufacturing environment. You will maintain the site’s electrical infrastructure, automated machinery and control systems, helping to improve equipment reliability, plant availability and production performance. The site operates a varied range of equipment covering mineral processing, materials handling, automated production and high temperature manufacturing. The role You will be responsible for planned and reactive electrical maintenance across equipment including: Crushing, milling and grinding machinery Conveyors and automated materials handling systems Industrial mixers and blending equipment Hydraulic presses and automated production machinery Robot cells Kilns, dryers and combustion control systems Weighing, batching and packing equipment Pumps, compressors, motors and process machinery PLC controlled equipment Variable speed drives Motor control centres Instrumentation and process control systems Three phase and single phase electrical systems Key responsibilities Complete planned preventative maintenance across electrical plant and machinery Diagnose and repair electrical, electronic, instrumentation and controls faults Respond effectively to breakdowns and minimise production downtime Fault find PLC controlled machinery and automated processes Maintain motors, drives, MCCs, sensors, safety circuits and control panels Carry out electrical inspections and testing Support root cause investigations into recurring equipment failures Identify opportunities to improve reliability, safety and energy efficiency Assist with the installation, commissioning and optimisation of new machinery Support small capital and continuous improvement projects Maintain accurate maintenance records and complete work orders Work safely under permit to work and isolation procedures Liaise with production teams, contractors and equipment manufacturers Essential experience Time served electrical apprenticeship NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds or equivalent electrical engineering qualification 18th Edition Wiring Regulations Previous electrical maintenance experience within an industrial manufacturing environment Strong fault finding ability on electrical plant and machinery Experience maintaining automated production equipment Knowledge of three phase electrical distribution Experience diagnosing faults on PLC controlled processes Ability to interpret electrical schematics and technical drawings Understanding of safe isolation and permit to work procedures Full UK driving licence Due to the site’s location, candidates must be able to drive and have their own transport. If you love solving problems on an automated plant, you won't be bored. Muck in and shape things: This is a small maintenance team with a start-up mindset. Your ideas on how the plant runs are heard, and you'll have a genuine say in how the site's electrical operations develop. Pass on what you know: You'll help mentor the electrical apprentice, so you leave your mark by bringing someone up while sharpening your own skills. Your salary, benefits & hours of work £22.84 per hour (around £50,000 a year on a 42.5-hour week). Overtime at 1.5x during the week and on Saturdays, 2.0x on Sundays. Call-out scheme: £25 per call-out plus a minimum of four hours at 2.0x pay. 20 days holiday plus 8 bank holidays to start, rising with service to 27 days plus bank holidays. Company pension rising to 6% after 12 months. Days: Monday to Friday, with flexibility around a minimum of 9 hours per day (for example, 7am to 4pm, half-hour unpaid lunch). What you'll do as the Electrical Maintenance Technician Reporting to the Head of Maintenance, you'll keep the plant and auxiliary equipment running safely and reliably across a busy manufacturing site. Carry out planned preventative and reactive maintenance on all electrical and instrumentation equipment. Fault-find and repair automated plant, including PLCs, variable speed drives and process instrumentation. Plan, complete and record electrical testing to stay compliant with BS7671 wiring regulations. Get involved in commissioning new plant and equipment as the site grows. Contribute to root cause analysis after failures to prevent repeat downtime.
