(Senior) Design Engineer Company: ISS Aerospace Location: Chieveley, Newbury, UK Employment Type: Full-Time, 37.5 hours per week Annual Leave: 28 days holiday per annum THE ROLE This role is part of the chain of work to provide the end-to-end capability to manufacture, build, integrate, test, and deliver our UAS – whether as production platforms or bespoke systems within larger R&D and trials programmes. The Senior Design Engineer will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and integrating the electronic systems that enable our UAV platforms. This includes power systems, avionics integration, communications, and control electronics. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES • Development of UAV electronic architectures and subsystems, • Updating and revising existing designs to improve performance and reliability, • Designing bespoke electronic modules and supporting payload integration, • Liaising with customers to understand and translate requirements into system designs, • Capturing requirements and design concepts and developing next-generation UAV electronics in collaboration with the CTO and systems team, • Implementing and improving design processes, ensuring best practices are followed, • Designing and implementing test, validation, and compliance processes for electronic systems, • Supporting integration and troubleshooting during system builds and trials YOUR PROFILE • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electronic Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field, • At least 3 years of experience in electronics design, ideally within UAVs, aerospace, robotics, or related sectors, • Strong knowledge of electronic design principles, including PCB design, circuit simulation, and embedded systems, • Experience with CAD/EDA tools for schematic capture and PCB layout, • Familiarity with avionics systems, sensors, communications, and control electronics, • Understanding of regulatory and safety requirements relevant to UAV systems, • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to work across technical and customer-facing environments, • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with a practical, hands-on mindset, • Proficiency in electronics CAD/EDA software (e.g., Altium Designer, KiCad, OrCAD, or similar), • Experience with prototyping and testing electronic systems, • Knowledge of EMC/EMI considerations and compliance testing, • Familiarity with UAV or aerospace subsystems such as propulsion, navigation, and control systems, • Experience with embedded firmware development (desirable), • Ability to lead, mentor, and manage project tasks within a growing engineering team, • Attention to detail, with a focus on reliability, safety, and regulatory compliance The role involves occasional international travel to meet the needs of our diverse customer base and global projects. Candidates must hold a valid passport and be prepared to travel within the UK frequently to support trials, demonstrations, and customer engagements. Applicants must be able to provide proof of identity, eligibility to work in the UK, and employment or education history for up to three years.
