About The Role The Dementia Adviser role requires you to work passionately to provideadvice, supportandguidanceto people affected by dementia, carers and their families. Team Sahara at The Alzheimers Society are proud to have a small but passionate team with a welcoming and supportive culture. This role will be supporting the South Asian community within the Greater Manchester area, so we are looking for someone who is fluent in one or more South Asian languages including Urdu, Punjabi, Hindi and in particular Bangla or Gujarati as well as English. You will be workingWednesday, Thursday & Friday - 21 hours a week. We are a Dementia Support Service dedicated to serving the South Asian Community in Greater Manchester. You will: Offer a vital and compassionate service providing information, a referral and signpost service as well as emotional and practical support to people affected by dementia and their families. Managing referrals and case loads Supporting our Memory Cafés and other group activities Facilitating information and awareness raising events Delivering talks and presentations to public audiences. Build relationships with a range of local contacts, networking with health and care professionals, marketing Alzheimers Society services and providing dementia support. Develop networks and pathways with partner organisations who work in the field of dementia, ensuring seamless and consistent support and empowering individuals affected by dementia to make informed choices. Provide support face-to-face, by telephone and online. About you We are hoping to welcome a passionate andknowledgeable Dementia Adviser to work in Greater Manchester as part of Team Sahara but also as part of the wider Greater Manchester team. You are: Someone who has working experience of assessing people face to face with an ability to assess their needs Deliver advice and guidance with a non-judgmental approach and have outstanding communication skills Strong organisational and time management skills to manage your caseload of clients effectively Good IT skills It is essential that you have the means to travel independently across Greater Manchester, with an expectancy to attend regular meetings across the area An understanding of dementia and the needs of those living with dementia and their carers would be an advantage Fluent in Urdu and English as well as Bangla or Gujarati and other South Asian languages. Confidence in public speaking and ability to deliver presentations in different languages if necessary.
