We're looking for a Senior Quantity Surveyor to join our Thames Water – Maple Lodge STW team based in Rickmansworth. Location: Maple Lodge STW, Rickmansworth Hours: Full time - some flexibility on hours available if desired, just let us know when you speak to us. This is an exciting opportunity to join a major water infrastructure upgrade project, supporting and deputising for the Commercial Manager. You'll lead day-to-day commercial management of key packages, ensuring robust cost control, supply chain management, and accurate reporting. As a senior member of the commercial team, you'll provide guidance to colleagues while contributing to the commercial success of this significant scheme from construction through to final account. What will you be responsible for? As a Senior Quantity Surveyor, you'll be working within the commercial team, supporting them in delivering all commercial and contractual responsibilities on this major project. Your day to day will include: • Managing the commercial and financial aspects of allocated works packages, ensuring adherence to contract terms and internal governance, • Preparing and maintaining detailed cost forecasts, cashflow projections, and variance analyses with accurate and timely reporting, • Leading change management processes including valuation, justification, and agreement of variations, • Managing procurement and administration of subcontract packages from tender enquiry through to final account settlement, • Providing guidance and technical support to Quantity Surveyors and Assistant QSs, reviewing their outputs and supporting their development What are we looking for? Project Manager - (TALENT POOL) Location: Remote (must be able to work to East and Central Africa time zones, with around 10% of time on project sites) GIST is a global research, advisory and implementation firm tackling complex and high-risk challenges for our clients. About This Talent Pool We are creating a Project Manager talent pool for upcoming and anticipated work in East and Central Africa, notably Somalia, Kenya, Ethiopia, and Mozambique. About the role Project Managers play a central role in the successful delivery of projects across aid, security and development contexts, often in fragile and conflict-affected settings. • End-to-end project management, from mobilisation to close-out, • Day-to-day coordination of technical advisory teams and consultants, • Budget oversight, financial forecasting and value-for-money monitoring, • Risk management, including maintaining risk registers and liaising with security teams, • Donor and stakeholder engagement, including regular client communication, • Oversight of monitoring, evaluation, learning and reporting requirements, • Supporting recruitment, onboarding and people management where required, • Contributing to organisational learning and future opportunities About you We are keen to hear from Project Managers who bring strong technical capability and the ability to operate flexibly in complex environments. • Experience in project management within the aid, security and/or development sectors, • Experience managing projects funded by bilateral or multilateral donors (e.g. FCDO, EU, UN agencies, World Bank, USG), • Strong budgeting, financial management and risk management skills, • Confidence working with diverse, multi-national teams and stakeholders, • Excellent communication and organisational skills, • A proactive, adaptable and solutions-focused approach, • Comfort working remotely across time zones and travelling to field locations, • Strong IT skills, particularly across MS 365, including Excel, • Languages: Fluency in English is required.
