Are you ready to take on a high-impact role at the heart of the UK Ministry of Defence (MOD)? We're looking for a Data Governance Manager who will also serve as the Information Asset Owner (IAO) for our critical training data. The Training Administration and Financial Management Information System (TAFMIS) is the MOD's core platform for managing all aspects of military training supporting the management of the training pipeline, the development and delivery of training, and the application of the Defence Systems Approach to Training (DSAT). Used by approximately 4,000 military personnel, civil servants, and contractors, TAFMIS is a mature suite of applications that supports the entire training pipeline. From Phase 1 and Phase 2 (Basic Training / Initial Trade Training), through career courses and advanced trade specialisations Phase 3 (Subsequent Trade Training), TAFMIS meticulously records job roles, course types, and course deliveries for both Regular and Reserve forces, ensuring training demands are met. As the Information Asset Owner (IAO) for TAFMIS, you will be directly responsible for the proper management, protection, and utilisation of this invaluable training data. The information within TAFMIS is crucial for understanding the readiness of our Service Personnel and is regularly used at all levels, including by ministers. Therefore, ensuring this data asset is secure and reliable is paramount. Simultaneously, as the Data Governance Manager, you'll play a pivotal role in the MOD's future. You'll work closely with current and future delivery teams to migrate data from TAFMIS to our new Defence Learning Management Capability (DLMC) services. This phased transition will eventually see TAFMIS replaced by modern alternatives under DLMC. As this unfolds, your role will evolve to become the DLMC Data Governance Manager, overseeing the decommissioning of TAFMIS services as DLMC is rolled out. Key responsibilities: • Reporting to DLMC Senior Responsible Owner via the Programme Director, • Information Asset Owner for TAFMIS and future DLMC services., • Understand the current data landscape, including existing consumers of the TAFMIS data, and to work with the delivery team to review and approve new data connections with TAFMIS and/or DLMC., • Act as Information Risk mitigation owner., • Ensure information is used in compliance with legislation and policy., • Ensure that all information artefacts are accurately recorded and kept current., • Work with the TAFMIS team and DLMC delivery team on data migration to DLMC services, review the migration plan and to ensure that the users of this data are kept up to date. Person specification Essential skills required: • Able to prioritise tasks and work as part of a large team spanning different levels and types of stakeholders., • Well versed in communication and confident in delivering SME advice to all levels and explaining complex concepts to others., • Experience in providing advice based upon multiple sources eg.
