About the Role We’re looking for a proactive and community-focused Recycling Support Officer to join Bedford Borough Council’s Waste and Resources team. In this role, you’ll engage with residents, schools, landlords and local businesses to promote better recycling habits, support the introduction of new waste schemes and help reduce contamination across the borough. You’ll be out in the community, delivering campaigns, collecting data and supporting real environmental change. We are seeking an experienced, dynamic, and highly motivated Transport and Distribution Manager to join our expanding team. As a key member of the management structure, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth operation, compliance, and growth of our passenger transport services. Key Responsibilities: • Plan, direct, and oversee passenger transport operations to ensure efficient, safe, and fully compliant service delivery in line with UK transport regulations., • Manage fleet acquisition, maintenance, and disposal strategies to optimise operational availability and meet environmental and safety standards., • Recruit, train, and supervise drivers, ensuring compliance with licensing requirements and maintaining exceptional service standards., • Develop and implement operational policies and procedures to improve efficiency, compliance, and customer satisfaction., • Monitor operational performance using data analysis and KPIs, preparing management reports to support strategic decision-making., • Ensure full compliance with health and safety legislation, conducting risk assessments and implementing safety improvement measures., • Oversee scheduling and dispatch systems to optimise fleet utilisation and meet customer demand., • Manage operational budgets and expenditure, ensuring cost-effectiveness and achieving financial targets. Person Specification: • Proven experience in a similar transport or fleet management role (minimum 3 years desirable)., • Excellent communication, leadership, and organisational skills., • Strong problem-solving abilities with a high level of attention to detail., • Self-motivated and capable of working independently as well as part of a team., • Flexible, adaptable, and able to manage multiple priorities effectively.
