Consultant Orthopaedic Hand Surgeon – Southampton NHS Hospital About the Role We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Consultant Orthopaedic Hand Surgeon to join our specialist team at Southampton NHS Hospital. In this vital role, you will provide expert onsite diagnosis, treatment, and care for patients with hand surgical conditions, encompassing NHS funded, privately insured, and self-funded patients. You will work closely with a multidisciplinary team and liaise with neighbouring NHS Trusts to ensure seamless patient care pathways. This full-time position offers a dynamic and rewarding clinical environment with opportunities to contribute to clinical governance, teaching, research, and service development. Flexible part-time options may be considered. What You Will Be Doing • Deliver high-quality specialist clinical care and surgical management for hand conditions., • Provide expert advice and assessment during routine working hours, supporting nursing staff and collaborating with NHS colleagues for patient transfers., • Engage actively in hospital audit programs and contribute to clinical quality standards and care pathways., • Manage all associated administrative responsibilities including clinical coding, discharge summaries, and reports., • Participate in hospital meetings, clinical governance, teaching, and research initiatives., • Maintain professional competence through ongoing training, appraisal, and revalidation processes., • Promote the hospital’s orthopaedic service through patient-centered care and liaison with GPs and other departments., • Participate in local and national specialty meetings and in-service education programs. What We Look For In You • Qualified Orthopaedic or Plastic Surgeon registered on the GMC Specialist Register with a special interest in Hand Surgery., • Proven broad experience in orthopaedic surgery and recent clinical exposure in hand surgery., • Strong communication skills with patients and multidisciplinary teams., • Ability to work effectively within a team and contribute to clinical audit and quality improvement., • Commitment to professional development, teaching, and potentially research., • Desirable: European Diploma of Hand Surgery, leadership experience, IT literacy, and involvement in national conferences and publications.
