Reporting to the Process Engineer, a Tube and Assembly Test Technician is required to perform working shifts to play a key role in the processing, final assembly and testing of X-ray tubes ready for their incorporation into scanning machines. This will involve operation of large vacuum bakeout ovens and vacuum equipment, final assembly processes, X-ray tube testing and high voltage tube conditioning. Responsibilities • Assisting in the vacuum bake-out of X-ray tubes including diagnosis and rectification of vacuum leaks., • Post bake-out Tube Activation, application of lead plates, tube assembly completion and set up for testing of X-ray tubes., • High Voltage conditioning and testing of X-ray tubes., • Performing preventative maintenance activities as required on vacuum equipment and high voltage test rigs., • Accurate and consistent recording of data including the use of Excel., • Use of various plants including vacuum bake-out ovens, conditioning rigs and overhead gantry crane., • Provide an on-going contribution to the development/improvement of the above processes and safe working practices., • Basic fault finding on X-ray tubes, test equipment and vacuum systems., • Raising Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) as required., • Ensuring compliance with COSHH regulations., • Organizing and maintaining a safe and efficient working environment., • Report any quality problems or defects to management for corrective action., • Duties may be modified or assigned at any time to meet the needs of the business. Key Skills • Follow defined processes in work instructions and checklists., • Work closely with others and contribute as a member of a small team., • Learn and understand plants and processes., • Great attention to detail and fastidiousness., • Operate computer-controlled processing equipment and test rigs via HMI interface., • Self-discipline to maintain best working practices., • Use of MS Office packages, especially Excel., • Write clear and detailed shift hand-over reports., • Perform necessary manual handling duties according to safe working practices. Essential Experience • Previous experience working as a technician in a production/laboratory/R&D/hi-tech engineering environment for ~3-4 years or more., • Experience operating sophisticated manufacturing/processing/scientific equipment, ideally involving vacuum and high voltage systems., • Familiarity with safe working practices and ensuring adherence. Desirable Experience • Production technician experience with X-ray tubes or similar hi-tech/scientific/medical equipment., • Experience working within a clean room environment., • Helium leak checking of vacuum systems/components., • Basic maintenance of vacuum systems., • Working in accordance with a Quality system., • Working in accordance with COSHH regulations., • 5S, 6 Sigma Practices., • Handling of compressed gas cylinders., • Experience working with lifting equipment, e.g., gantry crane. Qualifications & Working Hours • Working in a hi-tech manufacturing or research environment., • Technical qualifications in Engineering or Scientific discipline to ONC/HND level (or significant experience in technical roles).
