About the Role: We are seeking Senior and Principal Nuclear Safety Case Consultants to join U‑CD’s newly established nuclear safety division, supporting emerging opportunities, growth, and delivery across the UK nuclear sector. You will deliver nuclear safety case and assurance work across a range of projects, working closely with our Directors and Head of Nuclear Safety. You’ll be trusted with real responsibility, supported in your development, and encouraged to shape how we deliver consultancy, not just following a template. This role offers: • Tailored technical and consultancy mentoring, • A clear, personalised development pathway, • Progressive responsibility toward becoming a key safety case lead for assigned clients, • The opportunity to help build and mentor a future safety case team as the division grows Key Responsibilities: • Deliver high‑quality nuclear safety case documentation to agreed standards of time, cost, and quality, • Produce clear, structured safety case reports that demonstrate confidence in assessment methodology, • Lead or contribute to optioneering studies, including scoring and weighting approaches, • Plan and support Hazard Identification (HAZID) activities, including:, • Chairing or secretariat support for HAZOPs Apply Hazard Analysis (HAZAN) techniques such as: • Design Basis Analysis (DBA), • Probabilistic Safety Assessment (PSA), • Safety measure derivation, • Risk calculation and interpretation Develop: • Hazard schedules and fault schedules, • Engineering and procedure schedules, • Perform shortfall sentencing, including ALARP optioneering studies, • Develop Claims, Arguments and Evidence (CAE), • Engage directly with clients, providing progress updates, highlighting risks/opportunities, and proposing solutions Essential Qualifications & Experience: • Degree in a science or engineering discipline, or vocational qualification (HND or equivalent), and/or significant relevant experience, • Minimum 3 years’ experience supporting or delivering nuclear safety cases, • Experience authoring safety case assessments and documentation to client standards and procedures, • Providing technical safety input into engineering or design activities, • Supporting document checking and verification, • Awareness of core safety case assessment techniques, including:, • HAZID / HAZAN, • Dose assessment, • Fault sequence frequency and risk derivation, • Optioneering and shortfall sentencing Required: • Clear written communication skills, able to describe complex systems in an understandable way, • Ability to review large volumes of information and extract relevant safety content, • Strong personal work ethic, accountability, and pride in quality delivery, • Comfortable working with multidisciplinary teams and client representatives, • Willingness to travel to UK client sites where required, • Minimum of a Security Check (SC) clearance without any restrictions. UCD will support the application for Security Clearance if the individual does not currently hold it.
