Zero-to-Employable Coded Welder Programme (4 Weeks - Derby) Programme Overview This intensive four-week programme, delivered in Derby in partnership with Tecforce as the specialist training provider, is designed to take individuals with no previous welding or engineering experience and develop them into job-ready welders with industry-recognised qualifications. The programme blends hands-on training, technical development, and employability support to create a direct pathway into skilled welding roles across the region. What Makes This Programme Stand Out • A fast-track route into a skilled trade: from zero experience to employable in just four weeks., • Training delivered by expert welding instructors through our partnership with Tecforce., • Achievement of BS EN ISO 9606 coded welding standard, widely recognised across engineering, fabrication, and industrial sectors., • Additional BS EN ISO 17637 Visual Testing certification, giving candidates a competitive edge in quality-focused environments., • Based entirely in Derby, making it accessible for local candidates and employers., • A practical, workshop-driven programme where candidates spend most of their time welding, not in a classroom. Week 1 – Foundations & Safety • Introduction to workshop environments, tools, and equipment, • Safe working practices, PPE, and hazard awareness, abrasive wheels course, • Basic hand skills: measuring, marking out, cutting, grinding, material preparation, • MIG, TIG, or MMA fundamentals (based on employer demand), • Machine setup, torch control, bead laying, and plate practice, • Identifying and correcting weld defects, • Training aligned to BS EN ISO 5817 acceptance criteria level B, • Positional welding practice (e.g., PD, PF), • Working to Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), • Completion of BS EN ISO 17637 Visual Testing Course (Tecforce Certification), • Final coded welding test attempt (BS EN ISO 9606-1), • CV support, interview preparation, and job-readiness coaching, • Individuals with no prior welding experience, • People seeking a new trade, career change, or long-term skilled role, • Candidates who are reliable, motivated, and eager to learn Programme Outcome By the end of the four weeks, candidates will be: • Coded to BS EN ISO 9606 (Externally certified by Intertek), • Full awareness of 17637 Visual Testing method (Tecforce Certification), • Competent in core welding process, • Ready for employment in Derby’s engineering and fabrication sectors, • Can be specific process or positions for open role or employer’s needs
