Contract Electrical Problem-Solving Engineer – ASAP Start Are you the engineer people turn to when a problem really needs solving? We’re looking for an Electrical Problem-Solving Engineer who thrives on cracking complex electrical and electronic issues across modern vehicle systems. If you love deep-dive diagnostics, structured analysis, and leading investigations that make a real difference to quality and reliability — this one’s for you. What's on offer: • on site at a luxury vehicle maker - 35 hours per week, • start date ASAP - contract review date 31/12/2026, • Competitive hourly rate (inside IR35/ umbrella) What You’ll Do Lead 8D Investigations (D1–D4): • Form and coordinate cross-functional problem-solving teams, • Build clear, data-led problem statements, • Drive interim containment actions, • Deliver verified root-cause analysis with robust evidence Diagnostics & Testing: • Hands-on vehicle and bench testing, • Environmental stress testing + fault replication, • Build and execute test plans to isolate failure modes, • Use oscilloscopes, multimeters, network analysers, CAN/LIN/FlexRay/Ethernet tools, power measurement equipment Cross-Functional Collaboration: • Work with design engineering, software, quality, manufacturing & suppliers, • Support joint investigations and parts returns, • Feed findings into DFMEAs/PFMEAs and design reviews Continuous Improvement: • Spot recurring themes and feed into lessons learned, • Shape internal problem-solving standards, • Coach engineers and technicians on structured investigation methods What You’ll Bring Essential: • Qualification in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or Mechatronics, • Strong automotive electrical systems experience (body electronics, infotainment, EV, ADAS etc.), • Proven 8D capability (D1–D4), • Excellent hands-on diagnostic skills, • Good understanding of CAN, LIN, FlexRay, Ethernet, • Strong communication and technical reporting Nice to Have: • OEM or Tier 1 background, • CANoe/CANalyser, MATLAB/Simulink, Vector or HIL experience, • Knowledge of IATF 16949, ISO 26262, • Six Sigma or similar certification Working Environment • Lab, workshop and office mix, • Occasional supplier/manufacturing travel, • Hands-on work with vehicles, wiring and test rigs If you're driven by solving complex issues and making a measurable impact on vehicle quality, we’d love to hear from you.
