 Tour guide jobs entail taking groups of people out to touristic attractions and provide interesting information that allow the visitors to maximise their enjoyment of the places. These visits can either be just day trips or be longer ones. Tour guides take their visitors to cultural centres, scenic landscapes and historical monuments. Tour guide jobs may require one to speak several languages, work overnight trips and drive in between destinations. 

Responsibilities for a tour guide job include but are not limited to:

  • Providing sightseeing guidance and recommendations 
  • Driving or transporting groups of tourists or private tourists 
  • Researching, planning and arranging tour logistics that include schedule pickups, food, security and drop offs 
  • Leading and organising excursions 
  • Dealing with any unanticipated urgent situations 
To take on a tour guide job, one may not require previous experience if on the job training is being provided by the hiring company. Candidates do not need to hold an official degree but if they do - then a qualification in leisure, tourism, travel or languages will work in their favour. The average hourly salary for a tour guide job is £8/hour.
