Senior Mid‑Market Underwriter – Leeds Location: Leeds (Hybrid) Employment Type: Full‑time Seniority: Senior / Experienced Underwriter We’re seeking an experienced Senior Mid‑Market Underwriter to join our clients Leeds office and play a pivotal role in driving profitable growth across our regional commercial portfolio. As part of one of the UK’s most respected insurance brands, you’ll be a key technical and trading authority within the team, shaping broker relationships and influencing underwriting strategy across the region. About the Role In this senior position, you’ll take ownership of a complex and diverse mid‑market book, applying advanced technical expertise and strong commercial judgement to deliver sustainable, profitable results. You’ll act as a trusted partner to brokers, a mentor to developing underwriters, and a strategic contributor to the wider regional plan. This is a high‑visibility role with real influence — ideal for someone who thrives in a trading environment and enjoys balancing technical excellence with commercial impact. What You’ll Be Doing • Leading the underwriting of mid‑market commercial risks, including complex or non‑standard cases, • Acting as a senior trading partner to key brokers across the Leeds and wider Yorkshire region, • Negotiating terms, pricing, and coverage to secure profitable new business and strong retention, • Providing technical guidance, coaching, and support to junior and mid‑level underwriters, • Contributing to regional underwriting strategy, appetite development, and portfolio management, • Making confident, data‑driven decisions within an elevated authority level, • Building strong internal relationships across underwriting, distribution, claims, and actuarial teams, • Ensuring compliance with governance, regulatory standards, and underwriting best practice What We’re Looking For • Significant experience underwriting mid‑market commercial risks, • Strong technical capability with the confidence to handle complex cases, • Proven trading ability and a track record of building high‑value broker relationships, • Commercially minded with a clear understanding of portfolio performance and profitability, • Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder‑management skills, • A collaborative, supportive approach with the ability to mentor and develop others, • CII qualifications (or working toward ACII) strongly preferred What We Offer • Competitive salary with senior‑level bonus potential, • Hybrid working with a modern Leeds office, • Clear progression pathways and exposure to strategic decision‑making, • Support for professional development and advanced CII qualifications, • A respected brand, strong broker relationships, and a collaborative regional team
