Description Engineer - Test & Development Farnborough Hampshire Job Description: The role is that of an automotive project engineer working in the vehicle test & development department. Test & Development is one of several departments within the engineering group. The others include advanced engineering design FEA legal software HVAC and RQI departments who are our customers that you will be working closely with. The role does not include design or software creation aspects. Whilst the role is office based you will spend a high proportion of your time in the workshop or away at proving grounds instructing staff on the test work required both in the UK and overseas. Carrying out vehicle/rig inspections operation and test execution. Main duties include: • Assessing project test requirements., • Planning and agreeing timescales and test requirements with engineers and managers and keeping track of progress., • Test preparation covering: Test vehicle preparation Building prototypes Rig building Contracted test work Instrumentation and data logging installation and configuring CAN system integration and logging., • Organise and conduct system/vehicle tests on site or at test facilities (UTAC Horiba MIRA climatic chambers etc.) for: System supplier testing Internal test requests Legal compliance testing In service issues Managing T&D Technicians to achieve the required test set up and execution., • Interpreting and analysing results and data., • Test report writing., • Health & safety: Workplace safety Task risk assessments, • Investigating and solving problems e.g. mechanical electrical & CAN failures. Necessary skills and qualifications • Personnel Attributes: proactive approach showing initiate and ownership of the projects under your management., • Technical expertise: A strong background in vehicle engineering including mechanical electrical and CAN systems., • Project management: Work from project plans organise logistics of vehicle suppliers test location etc to a daily plan level., • Problem-solving abilities: A methodical proactive approach to identifying and resolving complex issues., • Communication skills: Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills for working with teams and clients., • Commercial awareness: The ability to balance depth of testing against cost and time against engineering and business objectives., • Education: A bachelors degree in engineering or a proven track record in engineering., • Experience: Ideally you have work experience gained in the automotive industry and in particular; bus coach HGV specialist vehicles or tier-1 suppliers.
