Job DescriptionJob Title: CNC Lathe Operator Job Description This full-time CNC Lathe Operator role involves setting up and operating CNC and manual lathe and milling equipment in a precision, AS9100-certified machine shop. You will interpret blueprints and work instructions, perform multiple set-ups, run multiple machines, and ensure that all parts meet strict quality and productivity standards. The position requires accurate work, independent problem-solving, and a strong focus on safety and inspection. Responsibilities • Set up and operate CNC and manual lathes, mills, and related machining equipment to produce precision components., • Perform multiple set-ups per week or per day, adjusting tooling, offsets, and programs as needed., • Produce a first-piece part that is ready for inspection, verifying that it meets all dimensional and quality requirements., • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and work instructions to determine machining processes, dimensions, and tolerances., • Run two or more machines at a time while maintaining quality and throughput., • Make accurate measurements using micrometers, calipers, gauges, rules, protractors, and other precision tools to verify part conformance., • Inspect work throughout the machining process to maintain quality to aerospace and defense standards., • Monitor machine performance, identify issues, and make necessary adjustments to maintain accuracy and productivity., • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in accordance with shop standards., • Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors regarding job status, issues, and improvement opportunities., • Follow all applicable shop procedures, quality standards, and documentation requirements associated with AS9100.Essential Skills, • 3–5 years of CNC or manual lathe set-up experience, including performing multiple set-ups per week or per day., • Proficiency in setting up and operating CNC lathes, CNC mills, and manual machining equipment., • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and written work instructions., • Ability to run two or more machines at a time while maintaining quality and efficiency., • Strong measurement skills using micrometers, calipers, gauges, eddy current or magnetic induction tools, rules, and protractors., • Basic math skills relevant to machining, including working with decimals, tolerances, and measurements., • Ability to lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds as needed., • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)., • Ability to read, write, and communicate in English., • Ability to work independently while maintaining high levels of accuracy and productivity., • Eligibility as a U.S. Person pursuant to EAR and ITAR requirements.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • Experience with CNC program adjustment and troubleshooting to improve part quality and cycle time., • Hands-on experience with milling machines, grinding, and general machining operations., • Familiarity with AS9100 quality standards and working in aerospace or defense-related environments., • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality, consistent work., • Ability to perform in-process and final inspections to verify part conformance., • Good problem-solving skills and the ability to identify and correct machining issues quickly., • Comfort working in a fast-paced production environment with tight tolerances and deadlines.Why Work Here? Work Environment The role is based in a non-union, AS9100-certified machine shop in Springfield that focuses on CNC machining for aerospace and defense-level quality. The facility currently operates a single shift with approximately 40 employees, with potential to add a second shift as the business grows. You will work with CNC lathes, CNC mills, manual lathes and milling machines, grinding equipment, and a variety of precision measurement tools such as micrometers, calipers, gauges, eddy current or magnetic induction instruments, rules, and protractors. The shop is clean, organized, and air-conditioned, providing a comfortable manufacturing environment. This is a full-time, on-site position that involves standing, moving around the shop floor, and occasionally lifting up to 50 pounds while following all safety and quality procedures. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of SPRINGFIELD, NJ. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr.
