Job DescriptionCompany Description Company Description: CareFlite is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit ambulance service sponsored by Baylor Scott & White Health, JPS Health Network, Methodist Health System, Parkland, and Texas Health Resources. CareFlite provides medical transport by helicopter, airplane, and ground ambulance, and non-medical transport via wheelchair van. Job Description CareFlite A&P Mechanics are responsible for maintenance, inspections, repairs, and modifications of CareFlite aircraft and for ensuring that the CareFlite aircraft remain in an airworthy condition on a twenty-four (24) hour as-needed basis. CareFlite A&P Mechanics are part of the professional team that provides air ambulance transport in the Dallas/Fort Worth Area. As members of that team, they must possess interpersonal and communication skills to promote teamwork and contribute to the organization’s mission in a positive, proactive manner. The CareFlite A&P Mechanic has the experience and knowledge to lead projects and mentor other less experienced A&P Mechanics. This position requires a personal commitment to CareFlite’s mission and core values and the willingness to demonstrate those core values in all activities performed for CareFlite or while representing CareFlite. The incumbent(s) of this position are active participants in the organization and support the changes necessary for the organization’s survival. This position reports directly to the Aircraft Maintenance Manager and/or the Director of Maintenance. No direct supervision is required. A&P Mechanics who have worked for CareFlite for six months or longer are expected to teach and mentor other mechanics. A&P Mechanics work collaboratively with pilots, medical staff, and CareFlite Managers to ensure that the organization’s mission is accomplished and that there is sufficient communication regarding aircraft status to accomplish the mission. Essential Duties/Responsibilities • Complies with all industry safety standards, OSHA regulations and CareFlite safety policies., • Reports safety-related occurrences and/or potential safety hazards in an appropriate and timely manner., • Schedules maintenance with Maintenance Manager and/or the Director of Maintenance taking into consideration such factors as workflow, location of equipment and personnel, tools, supplies, job requirements and weather., • Responsible for responding rapidly and appropriately to after-hours maintenance requirements when on call., • Performs maintenance, inspections, repairs and modifications in accordance with FAA regulations, manufacturer’s recommendations and CareFlite maintenance policies and procedures., • Utilizes CareFlite maintenance resources appropriately to accomplish required tasks and optimize in-service time for the aircraft. Utilizes appropriate technical data., • Orders anticipated parts, lubricants, etc. in sufficient quantities to ensure no aircraft downtime for these items. Utilizes appropriate CareFlite policies for ordering and storing aircraft parts., • Completes required documents, such as DMRs and inventory sign out forms in an accurate and timely manner., • Complies with CareFlite tool control and FOD policies., • Maintains and secures maintenance equipment at the hospital helipads., • Demonstrates the ability to analyze problems and reach acceptable, workable solutions., • Incumbent(s) will actively participate in quality assurance/improvement activities as directed by their supervisor. Each incumbent will acquaint themselves with the quality assurance surveys and/or quality improvement projects which affect their practice and adhere to the standards or changes implemented. Each incumbent will provide feedback in a positive proactive manner on quality assurance/improvement activities which impact their practice. Refrains from making negative comments about CareFlite, hospital and/or staff., • Written and oral communications are clear and concise.Qualifications, • Valid Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) Certificate, Inspection Authorization preferred., • High School Diploma or equivalent, • Knowledgeable of Federal Aviation Agency (FAA) regulations related to maintenance in Part 135 operations., • Five years of maintenance experience on appropriate type of aircraft (Bell 407, 429 & Air Bus H145D3), • Experience in supporting 24-hour EMS air ambulance operations is preferred., • Proficient English language skills and ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing., • Ability to maintain tact and diplomacy skills in high stress situations., • Knowledge of helicopter maintenance procedures. Aviation Maintenance Expertise: Applies advanced technical knowledge to perform helicopter maintenance, inspections, and repairs in compliance with FAA regulations and manufacturer requirements. Safety & Compliance: Consistently prioritizes safety by adhering to OSHA, FAA, and CareFlite policies, identifying hazards, and supporting a strong safety culture. Problem Solving & Judgment: Analyzes complex maintenance issues and makes sound airworthiness decisions in high‑pressure, time‑sensitive environments. Teamwork & Communication: Collaborates effectively with pilots, medical staff, and coworkers, communicating clearly and professionally to support mission readiness. Professionalism & Adaptability: Demonstrates integrity, accountability, flexibility, and resilience while supporting CareFlite’s mission, values, and continuous improvement efforts.
