Timing Device Shop Group Leader \n Location: Long Island City, NY \n Department: Events / Communications \n Employment Type: Full-Time \n FLSA Status: Non-Exempt \n Schedule: 37.5 hours per week; occasional evenings, weekends, and event travel \n Salary: $80,000–$86,000 \n \n Position Overview \n We are seeking a hands-on Timing Device Shop Group Leader to oversee warehouse, logistics, inventory, and repair-shop operations for a team responsible for timing devices used at major events and permanent locations throughout the United States. \n \n This position is ideal for someone who combines warehouse/logistics leadership with strong mechanical and electrical aptitude. The Group Leader will manage day-to-day warehouse operations, coordinate incoming and outgoing shipments, maintain inventory, support technicians, and ensure timing devices and event materials are properly maintained, repaired, stored, and ready for deployment. \n \n This is a hands-on leadership position. The ideal candidate enjoys working with tools and equipment while also being comfortable managing people, priorities, schedules, inventory, and logistics. \n \n Key Responsibilities \n\n • Oversee daily operations of the Long Island City timing device warehouse and repair shop.\n, • Lead and support Timing Device Technicians while they are working on-site.\n, • Manage workflow, schedules, priorities, and technician assignments.\n, • Coordinate the maintenance, repair, refurbishment, and testing of timing devices.\n, • Ensure equipment is fully functional and presentation-ready before deployment.\n, • Maintain accurate inventory of timing devices, event materials, signage, spare parts, tools, and related equipment.\n, • Coordinate all incoming and outgoing shipments for events and permanent installations throughout the U.S.\n, • Ensure incoming shipments are received, inspected, documented, and either properly stored or identified for repair.\n, • Prepare and coordinate equipment for upcoming events, including packing, shipping, receiving, and returns.\n, • Provide in-office support to field technicians before, during, and after events.\n, • Coordinate service calls and maintenance for permanent timing-device installations.\n, • Assist with new installations and ensure existing installations remain operational and properly maintained.\n, • Work closely with internal teams on equipment maintenance and refurbishment.\n, • Develop, maintain, and enforce SOPs and established operational procedures.\n, • Maintain an organized, safe, and efficient warehouse environment.\n, • Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues as needed.\n, • Assist with hands-on repairs using hand tools, power tools, soldering equipment, and other technical equipment.\n\n \n Qualifications \n\n • High school diploma required; college degree preferred.\n, • 3+ years of experience in warehouse operations, logistics, inventory management, distribution, or a related environment.\n, • Previous supervisory, team lead, or people-management experience strongly preferred.\n, • Strong hands-on mechanical and technical aptitude.\n, • Electrical/electronics repair experience required.\n, • Comfortable using hand tools, power tools, and soldering equipment.\n, • Strong inventory-management and organizational skills.\n, • Ability to manage multiple priorities and complicated schedules in a fast-paced environment.\n, • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.\n, • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.\n, • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.\n, • Forklift experience preferred.\n, • Ability to create and follow SOPs while holding others accountable to established processes.\n, • Ability to occasionally travel and work evenings/weekends in support of events.\n\n \n Ideal Candidate Backgrounds \n Strong transferable backgrounds may include: \n\n • Warehouse or Distribution Center Supervisor\n, • Shipping & Receiving Manager\n, • Warehouse Operations Manager\n, • Production or Manufacturing Floor Supervisor\n, • Event Production/Warehouse Manager\n, • Retail Store Manager, particularly hardware, electronics, or hobby environments\n, • Military Logistics or Supply Chain\n, • Small Business Owner with hands-on operations experience\n\n \n The strongest candidates will have a combination of leadership + logistics + inventory + hands-on mechanical/electrical skills. \n \n Physical Requirements \n This is an active, hands-on position that requires frequent standing and walking as well as computer and administrative work. Candidates must be comfortable moving equipment, carrying boxes, and occasionally lifting and/or carrying up to 100 pounds. The position may occasionally involve working outdoors or in varying weather conditions and traveling to events to support the Timing Device Technician team. \n \n What We're Looking For \n We're looking for someone who can run the warehouse while still being willing to roll up their sleeves and work alongside the team. The right person will be organized, mechanically inclined, comfortable troubleshooting equipment, able to manage people and priorities, and capable of ensuring equipment gets to the right place, at the right time, in proper working condition.
