Job Description Job Title: Controls Engineer Job Description This Controls Engineer role offers a strong foundation in industrial automation, giving you the opportunity to work on the design, development, and implementation of control systems under the guidance of experienced engineers. You will gain hands-on experience with PLC and PAC programming, HMI development, SCADA systems, and field commissioning while contributing to real-world projects across a variety of industrial environments. Responsibilities • Support the design and development of industrial control systems, including PLC/PAC programming, HMI development, and SCADA systems, • Assist with software unit testing, basic debugging, and simulation logic to help validate control strategies and system performance., • Participate in Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) activities and help document test procedures, results, and any corrective actions., • Learn and follow internal engineering standards and applicable lifecycle practices, including structured development approaches similar to CSIA-style methodologies where applicable., • Support instrumentation-related tasks by learning common instrument types, understanding scaling principles, and assisting with basic troubleshooting., • Read and interpret P&IDs and apply ISA symbology and tagging conventions accurately in project documentation and implementation., • Help prepare technical documentation such as device lists, I/O lists, functional descriptions, control schematics, submittals, and user manuals to support project deliverables., • Assist with control panel-related work, including reviewing bills of materials (BOMs), examining panel layouts, supporting basic hardware selection, and participating in schematic redlines and peer reviews with the electrical design team., • Provide support to fabrication and checkout activities, including panel quality checks and assisting with hardware FAT support., • Support field activities such as installation and commissioning tasks, as well as qualification steps (IQ/OQ/PQ)., • Participate in troubleshooting and service support activities as needed, which may occasionally include off-hours support depending on project demands., • Manage tasks across multiple active projects, communicate status clearly to project team members, and meet assigned milestone deadlines., • Use Microsoft Office tools to create clear documentation, reports, and communication related to project work and testing activities., • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Controls Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent technical experience and training., • 2+ years of experience in controls or electrical engineering, • Intermediate+ understanding of electrical concepts and a strong interest in PLC programming and automation work., • Comfortable with PLC programming concepts and industrial automation principles., • Ability to read and interpret technical documentation such as schematics, P&IDs, and device lists with guidance., • Comfort using Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook, to produce clear documentation and communication., • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment., • Demonstrated willingness to learn, take direction, and develop new technical skills in controls engineering., • Exposure to Allen-Bradley and Rockwell Automation platforms such as RSLogix and Studio 5000 or similar PLC platforms., • Familiarity with HMI and SCADA platforms such as FactoryTalk, Ignition, or comparable systems., • Understanding of industrial communication networks such as Ethernet/IP, DeviceNet, or similar protocols., • Experience or coursework using AutoCAD or AutoCAD Electrical for electrical drawings and panel design., • Awareness of electrical standards and guidelines, including basic NEC and UL concepts., • Experience with electrical design, schematic review, and control panel layout is a plus., • Background in robotics, automation systems, and controls engineering tools., • Hands-on experience with PLC troubleshooting, HMI programming, or SCADA configuration through labs, projects, or internships., • Ability to manage time effectively across multiple tasks and projects in a fast-paced environment. You will work within a systems integrator environment that focuses on designing and implementing industrial automation solutions for a variety of client sites. The role involves a blend of office-based engineering tasks and on-site work at customer facilities, where you will support installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting activities. Office work typically includes using tools such as PLC programming software, HMI/SCADA development platforms, and CAD applications on standard engineering workstations. Site visits may involve working around industrial equipment, control panels, and instrumentation in manufacturing or process environments, following all applicable safety procedures and using appropriate personal protective equipment. The schedule is generally full-time, with the possibility of occasional off-hours or weekend support during critical commissioning or troubleshooting periods.
