Job DescriptionPosition Summary The Body Shop Technician is responsible for performing high-quality bodywork, structural repairs, and refinishing on medium- and heavy-duty diesel trucks. This role ensures damaged fleet and customer vehicles are restored to safe, functional, and aesthetic condition in accordance with OEM standards, insurance requirements, and company quality expectations. Key ResponsibilitiesBody & Structural Repairs * Diagnose and repair structural damage on truck cabs, frames, bumpers, hoods, and panels. * Perform metal fabrication, cutting, welding, grinding, and straightening. * Repair or replace fiberglass, plastic, and aluminum components. * Conduct frame and alignment corrections using appropriate equipment. Surface Preparation & Painting * Prepare truck bodies and parts for priming and painting (sanding, masking, filling, blending). * Apply primer, basecoat, clearcoat, and specialty coatings per OEM specifications. * Operate spray guns and paint-booth equipment safely and effectively. * Ensure proper curing, paint matching, and final finish quality. Mechanical/Component Work * Remove and reinstall mechanical components, electrical parts, lighting systems, mirrors, and trim as needed for body repairs. * Inspect and test repaired vehicles to verify safety and functionality. Documentation & Compliance * Complete repair orders, parts requisitions, and labor time documentation accurately. * Follow safety protocols, OSHA guidelines, and environmental regulations. * Work with estimators, service managers, and insurance adjusters on repair scope. Shop & Equipment Care * Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in clean, safe condition. * Assist with inventory of bodywork materials and supplies. * Contribute to workflow efficiency and teamwork in the shop. QualificationsRequired * 2+ years of body shop experience (diesel, commercial, or heavy-duty preferred). * Strong knowledge of metalwork, welding, panel repair, sanding, and refinishing. * Ability to read repair estimates, diagrams, and OEM specifications. * Valid driver’s license; ability to move commercial vehicles within the lot. Preferred * Experience with medium/heavy-duty trucks (Hino, International, Freightliner, etc.). * I-CAR, ASE, or welding certifications. * Frame repair and fiberglass experience. * CDL (not required, but a plus). Physical Requirements * Ability to lift up to 75 lbs. * Standing, bending, climbing, and working in various shop conditions. * Use of PPE (respirators, gloves, welding masks, etc.). $24-28/hour Union benefits 6:00am-2:30pm 40 hours a week
