Job Description Educational Alliance (EA), one of New York City’s original settlement houses, was founded in 1889 to offer educational, social, and cultural services to Jewish immigrants arriving to the Lower East Side. The Center for Recovery and Wellness takes a holistic, strengths-based approach to recovery and wellness that responds to the distinct needs of each individual. Programs include residential and outpatient addiction treatment, recovery services, prevention education, and community programming. CRW offers culturally competent, evidence-based programs and services that strengthen individuals and communities, enhance resiliency, and foster lasting recovery. We are seeking a full-time Safety Monitor who will patrol and monitor premises to prevent theft, violence, or infractions of rules. Safety Monitor also provides support to client population: assists with the food pantry, de-escalating conflict, and following up with relevant staff on client issues. RESPONSIBILITIES • Lock doors and gates of entrances and exits to secure buildings., • Answer alarms and investigate disturbances., • Monitor and authorize entrance and departure of employees, visitors, and other people to guard against theft and maintain security of premises., • Write reports of daily activities and irregularities, such as equipment or property damage, theft, presence of unauthorized persons, or unusual occurrences., • Patrol CRW floors to prevent and detect signs of intrusion and ensure security of doors, windows, and gates., • Call police or fire departments in cases of emergency, such as fire or the presence of unauthorized persons., • Respond to medical emergencies by administering basic first aid or by obtaining assistance from paramedics., • Circulate among visitors, patrons, or employees to preserve order and protect property., • Warn people of rule infractions or violations, and apprehend or evict violators from premises, using force when necessary., • Answer telephone calls to take messages, answer questions, and provide information, • Operate detecting devices to screen individuals and prevent passage of prohibited articles into restricted areas., • Inspect and adjust security systems, equipment, or machinery to ensure operational use and to detect evidence of tampering., • Monitor and adjust controls that regulate building systems, such as air conditioning, furnace, or boiler., • Provide support to client population QUALIFICATIONS • Active Security Guard license for NYS required, • Minimum of 3 years’ experience working with SUD population required, • F02 Fireguard License preferred, • Ability to multitask and handle challenging situations in a professional and courteous manner, • Willingness to work as part of a team, • Must be organized, self-motivated, a team player, and computer literate, • Ability to work with a diverse set of clients with differing presentations, • Ability to work professionally and empathetically with a diverse group of clients and staff.
