Overview: The Sous Chef is responsible for ensuring that all meals coming from the kitchen are well prepared with regard to quality, consistency, eye appeal, taste and food cost. He/she is expected to provide training for all staff; meet corporate quality standards; and assist in establishing and enforcing food specifications, portion control, recipes and sanitation. Nourish is a Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP) that aims to increase health in individuals who are 60 years or older and have low incomes by providing nutritious food choices from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. New York Common Pantry is one of the three agencies statewide contracted to run this program, which allows seniors to receive food every month. Food packages include a variety of foods, such as milk, juice, farina, oats, ready-to-eat cereal, rice, pasta, peanut butter, dry beans, canned meat, poultry or fish, and canned fruits and vegetables. Additional components of Nourish include guidance for preparing nutritious meals, dissemination of nutrition and health information by nutritionists, and referral to health care and social service agencies for other needed services. When at full capacity, Nourish will serve up to 80 + partner sites to expand food and nutrition services for low-income seniors living in Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn, and the Bronx. Program Overview: CAMBA’S Food Programs, made up of the Beyond Hunger Emergency Food Pantry and the NOEP Program, work to ensure that no one in Brooklyn goes hungry. The Beyond Hunger Emergency Food Pantry, in Partnership with a number of different government and private entities including the NYS Hunger Prevention and Nutrition Assistance Program (HPNAP), United Way of NYC (UWNYC), Food Bank of New York, City Harvest, and NYC Human Resource Administration (HRA), distributes a 3 day supply of 3 meals per day of nutritional food to CAMBA clients-as well as those referred to us by churches and other agencies – due to hunger or lack of funds for adequate food purchase. Services also include food stamp screening, application assistance and referrals for application assistance. Additionally, the program brings in a number of different providers to provide information and referrals for nutritional education and support, other benefits and services to help improve client’s health, maximize their household income and help them move toward greater self-sufficiency. The NOEP Program provides outreach to individuals and families who may be eligible for Food Stamps. Staff assists eligible persons in filling out their applications and provides referrals to other food and nutritional resources. Position: Special Project Coordinator/Temp Reports To: Program Supervisor Location: 21 Snyder Ave Brooklyn NY What The Special Project Coordinator Does: • Maintains the integrity of the food pantry’s digital systems, including client intake software, donor databases, and inventory tracking, produce and distribute pantry ID cards to program participants, enroll participants when they come for service and provide other kinds of general support to the pantry program, • To improve efficiency in food distribution, ensure accurate reporting for grants/donors, better support program participants, and maintain confidentiality., • Design, develop, and maintain secure, efficient databases, ensuring data integrity and accessibility.
