Job Description Title Medical Assistant I Job Classification R3-A; Non-Exempt Department Name CUSM Health Supervisor Practice Plan Administrator Work Arrangement In person, Neurology Clinic in Riverside CA California University of Science and Medicine Health (CUSM Health) is seeking a compassionate and detail-oriented Medical Assistant (MA) to support the daily operations of its outpatient clinics, including our Neurology clinic located in Riverside, CA. Reporting to the Practice Plan Administrator and working closely with clinic leadership, this non-exempt role provides essential support to the front office, clinical, and administrative areas, ensuring a positive and efficient experience for every patient. The Medical Assistant welcomes patients, supports appointment scheduling and insurance processes, assists with examinations and procedures, coordinates authorizations, and helps maintain accurate electronic medical records. This role also supports patient flow, prepares exam rooms, manages supplies, and assists providers in delivering timely, high-quality care while maintaining professionalism, confidentiality, and compassion in every patient interaction. The ideal candidate is service-oriented, organized, and dependable, with experience in both front office and clinical support within a medical office setting. Documents required • Letter of Interest/Cover Letter, • Resume Under the direct supervision of the Practice Plan Administrator and through general on-site supervision of the Clinic Operations Supervisor, the Medical Assistant (MA) provides a broad array of medical, technical, and administrative support services for the outpatient clinics of CUSM Health. The MA plays a key role in providing a positive patient experience, ensuring the efficient operation of the outpatient clinics. The MA handles sensitive information with discretion, manages multiple complex tasks with efficiency, and provides excellent customer service with compassion. Essential Functions 55% Front Office/Patient Support • Welcome patients at the front desk, verify insurance, collect patient information and copays, and update the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system., • Prepare charts for upcoming appointments and maintain patient accounts by obtaining, recording, and updating personal, financial, and compliance information in the EMR system., • Assist providers and patients with enrollment in and navigation of the online patient portal., • Schedule patient appointments in person or by phone., • Discharge patients after visits by arranging follow-up appointments, ensuring lab and test orders are in place, and communicating with providers regarding patient inquiries., • Explain patient financial responsibility before their appointment, schedule procedures, and send out confirmation letters with appropriate preparation instructions., • Escort patients to exam rooms, take and record vital signs, and medical histories., • Request authorizations from payers via specified processes, including phone, fax, and/or web portals. Verify eligibility and insurance benefits for office visits, procedures, and medications., • Explain treatment procedures, medications, diets, and physician instructions to patients., • Administer appropriate questionnaires and pending orders per protocol to meet quality guidelines and assess social drivers of health (SDOH)., • Process medication prior authorizations, prepare and administer medications/vaccines under supervision, and coordinate prescription refills with pharmacies., • Perform routine laboratory point-of-care testing, collect specimens, log and prepare samples, and upload results to the EMR for physician review., • Collect co-pays, reconcile deposits, and educate patients on clinic services and provider background., • Monitor tasks and respond to messages in the EMR., • Monitor and maintain inventory of medical and office supplies, consult with supervisors for needs, and ensure equipment is serviced and operational. Required Educational Qualifications High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED), a Medical Assistant diploma, and a minimum of three (3) years of experience working in a medical office with demonstrated experience in front office procedures, referral and authorization process, and knowledge of healthcare insurance systems. Skills and Abilities • Advanced Proficiency with technology and software, including Microsoft Office Suite, MS Outlook/Teams, SharePoint, and Adobe.
