Job Description Job Title: Caregiver Department: Clinical FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Reports to: Wellness Lead/Wellness Director JOB SUMMARY: The Caregiver is responsible for assisting the resident in all areas of care as assigned by the Wellness Lead and Wellness Director. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: • Adheres to and conveys Community’s philosophy of maintaining elements of self-care and encouraging independence., • Receives report from the previous shift Caregiver and medication aide., • Receives the shift-to-shift report and shower schedule for information and changes upon coming on shift. Documents in the Activity Daily Living (ADL) binder or electronic system before going off shift, provides on coming shift with a status report of current resident conditions and updates., • Assists with all aspects of activities of daily living, environmental orientation, vital signs and other care as assigned., • Treat residents, families and visitors of the Community with dignity and respect., • Escorts residents to and from dining room and activity areas while encouraging residents to ambulate independently., • Assist with serving meals, feeding, to include prompt and cuing and dining room duties as instructed., • Provides laundry and housekeeping services to residents as assigned., • Demonstrates knowledge of infection control by following standard precautions., • Documents care provided or refused; adhering to Community policies and procedures., • Maintains clean, neat, comfortable, safe environment for residents, staff, and visitors including housekeeping duties as assigned., • Reports changes observed of resident, their apartment or belongings., • Observes any changes in resident physical or mental status and communicates to the Medication Technician, Wellness Lead and Wellness Director via immediate communication, and shift report., • Is thoroughly familiar with fire, evacuation, missing persons and other emergency procedures; Follows Community policy and procedures detailed in fire, life and safety, elopement and disaster plans., • Avoids loss, breakage, and waste of supplies and equipment., • Assures door is alarmed at all times., • Assists with resident activity programs as assigned., • Performs resident care with dignity, respect and individuality, with understanding, compassion and concern for maintaining the highest level of independence and well-being., • Requires minimal supervision. Is a self-starter., • Organizes and utilizes time appropriately; sets priorities and accomplishes assigned tasks., • Displays mature behavior and attitude in speech and action; demonstrates consistently pleasant proactive demeanor, tone of voice, supports the philosophy and approach to care per the policies of the Community., • Maintain resident confidentiality; respects resident’s rights, respects privacy and right to self-determination of residents., • Performs unpleasant tasks with grace; works cooperatively with supervisors and displays willingness to assist co-workers., • Abides by established policies and procedures of Community. Looks for ways to improve community functioning., • Maintain work areas neat and clean; helps to maintain appearance/upkeep of community common areas., • Is able to communicate in English effectively, verbally, and in writing., • Has the ability to spend long periods of time on feet and to ambulate quickly., • Is accurate, organized, dependable, neat and thorough in assigned tasks., • Ability and willingness to learn quickly., • Has familiarity with willingness to work with elderly population., • State Criminal Background Check and LIC 508 Criminal Record Statement., • LIC 503 Health Screening Report. ANY CERTIFICATION PER STATE REQUIREMENT: • Tuberculosis (TB) clearance as required by the State., • First Aid and CPR Certifications as required by the State., • Criminal Background check cleared., • Certification and/or License as required by the State., • Fingerprint clearance as required by the State., • Must be at least 18 years of age as outlined in state regulations., • Must be able to read, speak and write the English language. PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORKING CONDITIONS: Physical Demands: • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods., • Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl as part of regular duties., • Ability to talk and hear to communicate effectively with residents and staff., • Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds independently., • Sitting, • Use of hands and fingers to handle or feel, • Reaching with hands and arms, • Regular interaction with co-workers, residents, and vendors., • Occasional evening, weekend, or night shifts may be required to ensure proper shift coverage., • Subject to potential exposure to:, • Communicable diseases and infections, • Physical injury from transferring, repositioning, or lifting residents, • Exposure to latex., • Possible exposure to blood-borne pathogens., • Various drugs, chemicals, infectious, or biological hazards, • Environmental hazards such as falls, burns, odors, or equipment-related injuries, • On-call work may be required on an as-needed basis., • Occasional travel may be necessary. Professional office environment. Often uses telephones, Computer, laptop, copier/scanner email/fax and other standard office equipment. Occasionally attends business-related functions. Occasional travel to communities, various sales calls and industry meetings/conferences.
