Job DescriptionJob Title: Safety Specialist Job Description The Safety Specialist administers the Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) program on construction projects, ensuring that the project team and all subcontractors comply with safety requirements at all times. This role focuses on construction field activities with limited office time and involves regular travel to client sites, including technically complex facilities in sectors such as process, packaging, manufacturing, and research. The Safety Specialist supports safe project execution by guiding teams on EHS expectations, monitoring jobsite conditions, and promoting a proactive safety culture. Responsibilities • Administer the EHS program for assigned projects, ensuring safety compliance by the project team and all subcontractors working at the site., • Provide jobsite safety oversight on active construction sites, focusing on field activities and high-risk work., • Participate in project kick-off meetings to ensure contractors understand and acknowledge project-specific EHS requirements., • Conduct safety orientations for all new workers and ensure they are familiar with site-specific rules and procedures., • Consult daily with the Superintendent regarding coordination of safety activities and High Risk Work Permits., • Review contractor safety plans for compliance with client and internal EHS requirements., • Assist in the review of daily Safe Plan of Action (SPA) documents prepared by subcontractors and verify that their quality, content, and communication are appropriate for the described tasks., • Ensure contractor compliance with the project safety plan, including safety submittals, training records, equipment inspections, and all related documentation., • Educate and advise the project team on safety guidelines and policies to ensure compliance with all applicable State, Federal, and Local regulations as well as client requirements., • Inspect the job site regularly, identify hazards and unsafe conditions, and record observations in Procore., • Assist the Superintendent in managing the Safety Observation Report (SOR) program and other field safety initiatives., • Administer safety incentive programs to encourage and reinforce safe behaviors and practices on site., • Investigate all incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions, and complete all required paperwork and reporting accurately and on time., • Maintain comprehensive safety documentation and records for the project, including safety plans, Toolbox Talks, Chemical Safety Data Sheets (SDS), safety inspections, permits, and any other safety-related records generated on the project., • Collaborate closely with project stakeholders to integrate safety into planning and execution and to address safety issues promptly., • Travel to client sites as required, including potential extended assignments of 1–2 years at a specific client location., • Adhere to client site safety rules and ensure that all project personnel follow site-specific safety training and requirements., • Perform other safety-related duties as assigned to support overall project and organizational safety objectives.Essential Skills, • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Construction Safety, Safety Management, or a closely related field., • 2–5 years of construction safety experience, ideally including some experience in pharmaceutical or similar technically complex environments., • OSHA 30-hour safety training (OSHA 30) or equivalent construction safety credential., • Demonstrated experience administering EHS programs on active construction sites., • Strong knowledge of State, Federal, and Local safety regulations and their application to construction and industrial environments., • Ability to conduct jobsite inspections, identify hazards, and implement corrective actions., • Experience reviewing contractor safety plans and Safe Plan of Action (SPA) documents., • Ability to educate and advise project teams on safety guidelines, policies, and procedures., • Proficiency in documenting safety observations and maintaining safety records, including use of tools such as Procore or similar project management platforms., • Strong communication and presentation skills for conducting safety orientations, Toolbox Talks, and safety meetings., • Ability to investigate incidents and prepare clear, thorough reports., • Physical ability to stand, sit, and walk for prolonged periods., • Physical ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl as required by field conditions., • Ability to lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds., • Ability to climb ladders and access various areas of construction sites., • Willingness and ability to travel approximately 40% of the time or as necessary to complete duties, including overnight travel., • Capability and willingness to work in safety-sensitive, non-administrative areas such as construction, process, packaging, manufacturing, and research environments.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • Background in construction safety within pharmaceutical or other highly regulated industries., • Experience working in technically complex facilities and understanding of cleanroom and controlled-environment requirements., • Familiarity with Procore or similar construction and project management software for recording safety observations., • Experience supporting or administering safety incentive programs., • Experience managing or contributing to Safety Observation Report (SOR) programs., • Strong organizational skills for managing multiple safety documents, records, and permits across different projects., • Ability to build effective working relationships with contractors, project teams, and client representatives., • Comfort conducting both in-person and virtual (video) meetings and interviews related to safety and project activities., • Demonstrated commitment to fostering a proactive safety culture and integrating safety into all phases of project execution.Work Environment The Safety Specialist works primarily in field-based construction environments with limited office time. The role requires regular presence on active construction sites, including both indoor and outdoor settings, with exposure to varying working conditions such as noise, dust, and changing weather. The position is designated as safety-sensitive and involves frequent work in non-administrative areas such as construction, process, packaging, manufacturing, and research facilities. The role requires adherence to strict cleanroom gowning protocols when working in controlled environments, and compliance with all site-specific safety rules and training requirements. Travel is a significant component of the position, with approximately 40% travel or as needed to support project duties, including visits to multiple client sites, potential extended assignments of 1–2 years at a single site, and occasional overnight stays. All interviews for this role take place either in person or virtually, with video required for virtual sessions. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Somerset, NJ. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $60.00/hr.
