THE OPPORTUNITY Launched in 1993, the award-winning Midtown Community Justice Center is one of the country’s first problem-solving courts. It provides alternatives to fines and jail as a response to low-level crime. Seeking to reduce crime and incarceration, and increase public trust in justice, the Midtown Community Justice Center works with neighborhood stakeholders to improve Midtown Manhattan, and to serve the vibrant Midtown community, specifically those in need of services. The Justice Center’s court responds creatively to low-level offending, seeking sentences that are restorative to the defendant and community. In 2023, Midtown Community Justice Center celebrated 30 years of operation and was renamed to Midtown Community Justice Center to reflect the work we do in the community. The work has continued to move upstream and beyond the walls of our physical space through expanded diversion initiatives, street outreach, and community engagement. The Midtown Community Justice Center is seeking a Bilingual Social Worker for its court-based, community-based, and voluntary programs, which includes the Emerging Adult Court for 18-25-year-olds, Misdemeanor Mental Health Court, Community Court, and referrals from downtown Manhattan Center site, Manhattan Justice Opportunities. The Bilingual Social Worker will be responsible for conducting assessments and intakes, making referrals to community-based service providers, offering comprehensive trauma-informed individual counseling and case management sessions, and facilitating psychoeducational groups. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: • Conduct individual counseling sessions, psychoeducational and therapeutic groups, and clinical assessments;, • Provide recommendations for services and monitor treatment for court-mandated clients;, • Provide comprehensive, trauma-informed, culturally-responsive, clinical and case management services to clients (and, where appropriate, their families) that address issues such as substance use, mental health issues, trauma, interpersonal violence, housing, and educational and vocational needs;, • Attend interdisciplinary case conferences to help clients navigate the court;, • Collaborate with court staff and stakeholders, including defense attorneys, prosecutors, judges, and court officers;, • Maintain appropriate client information in electronic databases and paper files;, • Report on client progress and compliance to court partners (judges, defense attorneys, and prosecutors);, • Establish and maintain linkages with community partners who can provide appropriate interventions and services to court-involved individuals;, • Provide ongoing crisis intervention and de-escalation, as needed;, • Collaborate with team members to design and participate in community events;, • Participate in, and at times facilitate, staff meetings, team-building exercises, trainings, and site visits;, • Participate in evening and weekend community meetings, events, and programming, as needed; and, • Perform other relevant duties, including coverage and support, as needed to support the Midtown Community Justice Center and Center for Justice Innovation.Qualifications:, • Bilingual (Spanish-English) required;, • LMSW and a minimum of 2 years prior work in criminal justice and/or a related field required. THE OPPORTUNITY The Center for Justice Innovation is seeking MAP Engagement Coordinators to support a resident-driven; community organizing initiative in partnership with the Mayor’s Action Plan for Neighborhood Safety (MAP). Underway since 2015, MAP is a comprehensive strategy to enhance public safety and strengthen community well-being in 15 public housing developments across New York City. The initiative aims to enhance safety and overall quality of life by strengthening collaboration and capacity among public housing residents. Since 2016, citywide meetings have been convened to share information and data, facilitate community engagement to identify neighborhood priorities, enhance the quality of life and spur collaboration and accountability among city agencies and local stakeholders. The Center for Justice Innovation serves as an implementation partner for NeighborhoodStat. NeighborhoodStat (NSTAT), the operational centerpiece of MAP, is a community-based, problem-solving process grounded in the belief that public safety cannot exist without the public. It is an acknowledgment that safe and thriving neighborhoods require resident leadership, community and government support, and resources to produce sustainable change. To that end, NeighborhoodStat employs a series of local meetings that engage residents and MAP partners in sharing, analyzing, and using data to identify public safety priorities and implementation of solutions. These meetings, the information they generate, and the actions that follow are an essential part of MAP’s strategy to enhance accountability by providing local residents and stakeholders with considerable resources and access to key decision-makers. The Center for Justice Innovation is seeking an organizer from Polo Grounds Houses in Manhattan, Brownsville, Van Dyke, Tilden, Langston Hughes, and Red Hook Houses in Brooklyn, and Castle Hill, Patterson, Mitchell, Mott Haven, Butler, Morris Houses in the Bronx community who will support residents, community partners and local city agency representatives through the process of identifying and solving issues that create vulnerabilities in community safety and well-being. The MAP Engagement Coordinator will lead the planning and implementation of NeighborhoodStat at their designated site. The MAP Engagement Coordinator is expected to: Recruit and retain a team of local residents and support building their capacity in policy and placemaking, organizing and advocacy, and other relevant competencies; Facilitate the implementation of resident-led community-building projects;Work in partnership with the Program Administrators to coordinate city agencies to respond to community needs via all aspects of the NeighborhoodStat process;Promote positive cultural norms around behavioral change to maintain community-led public safety; andUse data to inform resident-led strategies that promote community safety. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Organizing and Direct Action:Recruit and manage a diverse resident team: representative of the development’s diverse subgroups, including religious affiliations, ethnic identities, cultures, languages, age groups, and histories of community organizing and civic engagement;Develop and retain a comprehensive engagement plan, with a clear strategy, benchmarks, and outcomes, to create partnerships and gain a solid understanding of key community priorities; Attend in-person, teleconference, virtual meetings, and community events, including; precinct council meetings, community board meetings, and Tenant Association meetings; Conduct research and engage experts to create meeting and action agenda’s that introduce residents to a variety of interventions strategies and/or frameworks for community organizing and problem-solving;Facilitate resident and stakeholder planning meetings that support engagement, problem identification, problem-solving, practice and action steps, and memorialize plans in a centralized, digital platform; Lead facilitation of resident team meetings and manage meeting invites, agendas, note taking, and resident task support and execution;Plan, lead and co-facilitate public community meetings and direct action organizing activities, as appropriate with MAP Initiative Managers; meet regularly with Initiative Managers to organize and strategize resident action items for MAP Initiative Managers to address with city agencies; Co-facilitate and co-organize, with MAP Initiative Managers, city agency, and community partner meetings, and represent resident concerns and proposed solutions; Track action steps by recording, consolidating, and sharing meeting notes with key strategic partners; including government partners, NYCHA representatives, local partners, elected officials, team members, and the resident public; Host an annual resident-led development-wide community participatory process with support from key organizational staff, and government partners by engaging residents in idea generation and voting; and, subsequently, informing the public of chosen projects and engaging residents in project design and implementation; Champion ongoing community outreach and communications to raise awareness of residents’ priorities, placekeeping projects, and policy recommendations; Work with the Communications Manager to leverage traditional media, social media, and public education campaign strategies to share updates, action steps, and resident priorities and activities; Work closely with MAP mediation programs and MAP mediation project sites to address policing and public safety in the respective NYCHA neighborhood. Support resident voice and resident advocacy for policy change by defining challenges and identifying opportunities to practice or voice solutions; andSupport the recruitment of youth council members, provide community context for policy recommendations, and incorporate the youth agenda into resident meetings, when relevant. Project Development and Management:Support resident teams in the development and execution of maintenance plans for existing place-keeping projects;Co-develop an annual resident-led project (social program or place-keeping project) with support from key organization staff; andPlan, coordinate, and execute place-keeping activities, community events/meetings, and direct action activities to address and advocate for community needs and concerns. Research and Evaluation:Track and evaluate ongoing organizing strategies by completing Weekly Activity Logs; Complete a comprehensive, monthly narrative report detailing strategies, problem-solving approaches, set-backs, and outcomes;Ensure continuity and progress of resident organizing goals through the consistent creation, filing, and distribution of meeting agendas and meeting minutes in a digital, designated, and centralized location; andCollaborate with other staff and team members to implement systems that support effective project planning and data collection. Referral Support:Build knowledge-base and relationships with local social service providers, and NYCHA and City resources to create a strong referral network; andRecruit and inform the resident team, resident public, and local partners of the Community Resiliency seminars in a timely manner while polling for interest and feedback, and answering questions about training logic and content. Its mission is to encourage communication and understanding, prevent future conflicts, and help foster stronger, healthier neighborhoods. The organization also houses two Cure Violence sites in partnership with the NYC Mayor’s Office: Save Our Streets (S.O.S.) Crown Heights and S.O.S. Bed-Stuy, collectively known as Save Our Streets Brooklyn. Neighbors in Action Bed-Stuy is seeking a Community Engagement Coordinator. Reporting to the Associate Director, Community Safety, the Coordinator will work to increase community activation opportunities to promote neighborhood safety; create and maintain bonds between residents and third-party organizations for service referrals and support, manage NIA’s volunteer recruitment and management, serve as point-person for all the organization’s community initiatives including event planning and special projects, and perform constant outreach activities to community stakeholders, local organizations, and businesses. Operating out of Richmond County Criminal Court along with community-based offices, SIJC is a team of social service providers, court-based resource coordinators, mental health practitioners, compliance specialists, and others who seek to improve the quality of justice. Supervised Release offers an alternative to jail by providing pretrial supervision, case management, and voluntary social services to people charged with misdemeanor and felony offenses, and in doing so, uses an arrest as a window of opportunity to change the direction of a participant’s life, avoiding the harmful effects of incarceration. SIJC is seeking a Clinician, Supervised Release Program (SRP). Reporting to the Clinical Director, the Clinician, SRP will be licensed a social worker and mental health practitioner responsible for providing therapeutically-informed support to participants. This position will leverage exemplary clinical and interpersonal skills to provide clinical support to participants enrolled in the program. Specifically, the Clinician, SRP will facilitate CBT-informed sessions for all Tier 2 participants, provide short-term counseling for any participant identified as a strong candidate for mental health support, and external referrals to therapy, as appropriate. This position provides hours towards LCSW accreditation. The Clinician, SRP will not carry a standard SRP caseload. Rather, they will work closely with the case management and specialty in-house referral teams to case conference about participants' strengths and needs and coordinate tailored support as appropriate. The Bronx Community Justice Center is seeking multiple full-time Violence Interrupters for the Save Our Streets Bronx Program. Reporting to the Violence Interrupter Supervisor, the Violence Interrupter will work individually and as a team to prevent neighborhood shootings and killings. They provide conflict mediation services and serve as conduits to the program’s Outreach Workers. BJI seeks Night Clinical Intake Specialists for the borough’s Supervised Release Program (SRP). Reporting to the Night Clinical Intake Coordinator, Clinical Intake Specialists will leverage social work or mental health training and direct practice experience to facilitate participants’ successful transition into SRP. Clinical Intake Specialists will conduct a comprehensive needs assessment; connect participants with an appropriate case manager, focusing on participant needs and individual case manager skills and strengths; generate mandatory programming recommendations, and refer candidates to services with community-based service providers. THE OPPORTUNITY Brooklyn Justice Initiatives (BJI), the largest operating project of the Center, seeks to re-engineer the experience of criminal court in Brooklyn, New York, by providing judges and attorneys meaningful alternatives to bail, fines, and jail sentences. Operating out of Kings County Criminal Court and community-based offices, BJI is a team of social service providers, court-based resource coordinators, mental health practitioners, compliance specialists, and others who seek to improve the quality of justice. Supervised Release offers an alternative to jail by providing pretrial supervision, case management, and voluntary social services to people charged with misdemeanor and felony offenses, and in doing so, uses an arrest as a window of opportunity to change the direction of a participant’s life, avoiding the harmful effects of incarceration. Program participants are monitored to ensure their appearance at court dates and mandatory programming, and receive referrals to services like job training, drug treatment, and mental health counseling. BJI is seeking a Court Liaison, Supervised Release Program. Reporting to the Supervising Court Liaison, the Court Liaison will coordinate with court stakeholders to ensure the successful release of program participants to the Brooklyn SRP. The Court Liaison will review all available court-related information about each participant released under supervision to complete the necessary paperwork. Once participants are enrolled in programming, the Court Liaison will provide written and verbal updates to the court, including defense attorneys, assistant district attorneys, and judges, on a regular basis. The Court Liaison also covers various Criminal and Supreme Court parts across multiple locations, including specialized court initiatives and arraignments. THE OPPORTUNITY SIJC seeks a Community Engagement Coordinator for the borough’s Supervised Release Program (SRP). Reporting to the SRP Clinical Director, the Community Engagement Coordinator will oversee the development and implementation of housing, employment, and educational services and the expansion of community engagement services provided in-house for program participants. Specifically, the Coordinator will develop supports to maximize participants’ access to medical and mental health services, substance abuse treatment and other interventions, employment and educational services, youth programming, housing resources, and other community-based supports. The Coordinator will work closely with site leadership and the Center’s SRP Court Reform team to ensure that services and service linkages are developed and implemented aligned with the SRP program model and the Center’s organizational values. The Community Engagement Coordinator will oversee and support a team of Community Engagement, Housing, and Education and Employment Specialists by providing consistent and clinically-informed task supervision, with the support of the Clinical Director. Focused on serving young adults ages 16–24 living in Central Harlem, the Work Plus Career Mentor will provide intensive employment support and career coaching to youth who are not currently enrolled in school or employed. The Career Mentor plays a pivotal role in creating pathways to sustainable employment and reducing justice system involvement through life skills development, community engagement, and individualized mentorship. CASES keeps people out of jail and prison by engaging them with effective services that help them succeed in the community. We specialize in serving youth and young adults in criminal justice and neighborhood-based programs. This position is looking for an independent self-starter to be a Career Coach for an incentivebased job readiness program for young adults that live in Central Harlem. Job Description Overview Employed by PAGNY for The Division of Correctional Health Services (CHS) of New York City Health + Hospitals (H+H) is responsible for the delivery of medical care, mental health care, and discharge planning in the jail system. Approximately 25% of new admissions per year to the NYC jail system will receive care on the mental health service. This service strives to provide safe, holistic and evidence-based therapeutic interventions for the diverse range of mental health issues that face the population, from serious mental illness to the natural struggles that accompany incarceration. The service provides some of the most comprehensive and unique treatment modalities in the country, including specialty housing units for individuals with serious mental illness, a 24-hour on-call psychiatric service, robust creative arts programming, a strong DBT training program, clinics in each of the facilities, substance use treatment, integrated re- entry services, and relationships with multiple training institutions throughout the city. Responsibilities The Pharmacy Technician performs all technical tasks in the unit dose, carry and out-patient drug distribution systems as well as other related duties of a satellite pharmacy. The Registered Pharmacist approves all work performed by the Pharmacy Technician. • Unit Dose and Carry Drug Distribution Systems, • Assists in maintaining accurate patient profiles by informing the pharmacist of changes in patient names, I.D. number or housing so modifications can be made in the pharmacy database., • Fills and labels patient cassettes with non-carry and carry system medication bags from computer generated fill lists, and/or original drug orders., • Obtains court medication list from General Office. If medication is not in Pyxis, technician can have it added to Pyxis., • When outside methadone clinics call to verify last dose and date of methadone, technician will review Accumed methadone administration records to ascertain the patient’s last dose and date of methadone administration., • If there are requests for a patient profile, the individual should be instructed to get the profile themselves from report manager. Requests from other agencies should be referred to the pharmacist on duty., • Prints and reviews all transfer reports, checks if the patients is on medication, prints patient medication profile and fills needed doses of medication for subsequent checking by pharmacist. If patient is on methadone or DOT medications, tells pharmacist of such., • Transports patient cassettes to medication clinic areas and exchanges same when necessary., • Files completed fill lists, updates lists, distribution lists, methadone sheets and other materials according to procedure., • Checks, rotates and restocks all drug stock areas. Fills Pyxis machines as required. Files Pyxis reports with non pyxis stock records and retains them for 1 week. On a monthly basis checks for outdated medications in Pyxis, clinic floor stock, pharmacy stock and other areas where pharmacy stores medications. For non pyxis floor stock, maintains established par levels based on individual clinic or infirmary need. Records issues of stock on the non pyxis Floor Stock Inventory and Issue Record., • Delivers emergency boxes and other requested items to clinic or infirmary areas as needed., • Prepares weekly pharmacy stock order by utilizing par levels and building usage patterns for review by the pharmacist. Enters order into IDWhere and transmits on both a daily and weekly basis to packaging. Reconciles packing slip or invoice against items received. Notifies building pharmacist and packaging manager of any discrepancies. Puts away orders upon receipt, appropriately rotating stocks as required., • Inspects all drug storage areas (clinic, mini-clinic, urgi-center, infirmary, pharmacy, par level rooms, dental, X-Ray, etc.) for outdated medication, IV solutions and related supplies on a monthly basis., • Sorts, counts, prepares outdated drug manifest and packs up outdated medications for return to Central Medical Supply for submission to a reverse distributor., • Prepares and records the prepackaging of extemporaneous unit dose medication., • Records daily statistics on the RX Daily Stats Activity Report form in the computer. Gathers and records other statistical and survey information as required. Emails to appropriate party as requested., • Has a working knowledge of the pharmacy and medical computer systems. Keys data into the pharmacy system (compliance and OTC requests) and retrieves data from the computer as directed by the pharmacist and permitted by law. Prints or reprints all reports/labels as required., • Maintains all pharmacy areas, including “bubbles,” in a clean, orderly and well stocked fashion for all shifts. Contacts on-island administrator in the event of a delay or any other occurrences or problems which adversely affects the above procedures. Once a problem has been reported, keeps the on-island administrator informed about either the progress or lack thereof in distributing medication. (As described in the Disruption of Services Policy.), • Sets up and operates liquid and solid unit dose repackaging machines. Responsible for the proper maintenance and cleanliness of the machine at the end of each run., • Packages oral solids into plastic zip-lock bags for the carry system., • Maintains proper record keeping and control procedures as outlined in the Packaging policy. THE OPPORTUNITY Brooklyn Justice Initiatives (BJI), the largest operating project of the Center, seeks to re-engineer the experience of criminal court in Brooklyn, New York, by providing judges and attorneys meaningful alternatives to bail, fines, and jail sentences. Operating out of Kings County Criminal Court and community-based offices, BJI is a team of social service providers, court-based resource coordinators, mental health practitioners, compliance specialists, and others who seek to improve the quality of justice. Supervised Release offers an alternative to jail by providing pretrial supervision, case management, and voluntary social services to people charged with misdemeanor and felony offenses, and in doing so, uses an arrest as a window of opportunity to change the direction of a participant’s life, avoiding the harmful effects of incarceration. Program participants are monitored to ensure their appearance at court dates and mandatory programming, and receive referrals to services like job training, drug treatment, and mental health counseling. BJI seeks Case Managers for the borough’s Supervised Release Program (SRP) Brownsville/East New York office. Reporting to Supervising Case Managers, Case Managers are the front line of service delivery and key to ensuring that the program meets its mandate. Specifically, Case Managers will supervise SRP participants according to their assigned tier and level; work with participants to identify and address barriers to compliance and court attendance; conduct outreach to participants, court stakeholders, community-based service providers, and collateral contacts; connect participants to appropriate services in the community to support their stabilization, and ensure accurate and timely court reporting on participants’ compliance with program requirements. Operating out of Richmond County Criminal Court and community-based offices, SIJC is a team of social service providers, court-based resource coordinators, mental health practitioners, compliance specialists, and others who seek to improve the quality of justice. The Center’s Gender and Family Justice team is seeking a Bilingual Facilitator to facilitate classes that address intimate partner and family violence. The Bilingual Facilitator will teach primarily in the Tactics and Choices class, which facilitates classes for those arrested for Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) charges and who are participating in the Supervised Release Program. Participants are either mandated or encouraged to voluntarily attend this class as part of their supervised release program. The class offers participants an overview of basic principles of power and control dynamics and uses an interactive format to introduce strategies for making healthy choices in intimate relationships. The Bilingual Facilitator will provide this class as part of a larger IPV supervised release track, with the goal of increasing compliance with court mandates and return to court. The Bilingual Facilitator will also train in other IPV and domestic violence groups and classes as the team seeks to expand programming. The Bilingual Facilitator will primarily teach online but will is also required to teach classes in person throughout New York City's five boroughs as the program expands. The class will be offered in several separate groups: Spanish-speaking, male, female, and LGBTQ+ defendants utilizing different curricula. Classes are offered in other languages with an interpreter on an as-needed basis. The Facilitator will teach primarily in the Tactics and Choices class, which facilitates classes for those arrested for Intimate Partner Violence charges and who are participating in the Supervised Release Program. Participants are either mandated or encouraged to voluntarily attend this class as part of their supervised release program. The class offers participants an overview of basic principles of power and control dynamics and uses an interactive format to introduce strategies for making healthy choices in intimate relationships. The Facilitator will provide this class as part of a larger IPV supervised release track, with the goal of increasing compliance with court mandates and return to court. The Facilitator will also train in other IPV and domestic violence groups and classes as the team seeks to expand programming. The facilitator will primarily teach online and but will also teach classes in person throughout New York City's five boroughs as the program expands. The class will be offered in several separate groups: Spanish-speaking, male, female, and LGBTQ+ defendants utilizing different curricula. Classes are offered in other languages with an interpreter on an as-needed basis. THE OPPORTUNITY The Center for Justice Innovation seeks a Housing Court Navigator for the Eviction Diversion Initiative (EDI) in Kings County. The mission of EDI is to ensure access to the holistic resources needed for tenants and their families to prevent eviction and maintain safe, stable, and affordable housing. EDI helps litigants get assistance with arrears and ongoing rental assistance, legal assistance, public benefits, mental health services, employment, financial empowerment, and connections to other community-based organizations. EDI also facilitates collaboration with court administration, judges, and clerks to review data, identify resources, and problem-solve issues as they arise. The EDI project is run by the Center for Justice Innovation in Kings and Suffolk Counties in New York State. Reporting to the Project Manager of Eviction Diversion in the Kings County (Brooklyn) Housing Court, the Navigator is responsible for supporting the daily operations of the EDI grant program with Kings County (Brooklyn) Housing Court. The Housing Court Navigator will be responsible for identifying and assisting public housing and housing voucher recipients who are facing eviction as well as other tenants facing eviction or displacement. The selected candidate will be charged with initiating and maintaining relationships and working collaboratively with stakeholders, including attorneys for litigants (including but not limited to attorneys for tenants and attorneys for the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA), the presiding judge and their court attorneys and clerks, Office of Court Administration (OCA) personnel, Adult Protective Services (APS), Human Resources Administration (HRA), other government and social services agencies, and tenant families. The Navigator will also coordinate case-needs, identify social service needs, facilitating referrals, and record progress and outcomes.
