Job description The New York Legal Assistance Group (NYLAG) seeks a highly motivated, experienced Immigration Attorney for a full-time position with the LGBTQ Law Unit. The LGBTQ Law Unit seeks an experienced fulltime attorney to join our team and advocate for our immigrant clients facing removal. NYLAG’s LGBTQ Law Unit, founded in 2008, exists to protect and expand the rights of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ) community and to provide services that meet the unique legal needs of low-income LGBTQ New Yorkers. LGBTQ communities, especially those of color, transgender and gender non-conforming individuals and youth, are at greater risk of living in poverty and of being targeted for violence. The LGBTQ Law Unit provides free representation and advice on a wide array of civil legal matters, including legal name and gender marker changes, immigration (including removal defense), family law matters (orders of protection, custody and visitation, divorce, and adoption), housing, employment and public accommodation discrimination, wills and advance directives and access to gender affirming healthcare. We engage with community partners to provide legal services and education outreach in community settings throughout the five boroughs and push forward systemic advocacy efforts to advance LGBTQ rights and protections. The Immigration Attorney will represent LGBTQ+ immigrants on detained and non-detained removal defense and post-order work providing full representation and limited scope assistance. The job requires substantive knowledge and experience with removal defense for asylum-seeking LGBTQ+ immigrants including bond hearings, motions to reopen and motions to stay removal before EOIR and BIA, federal petitions for review, individual merits hearings, BIA appeals, habeas petitions and motions for emergent relief from detention or removal. Candidates will have a proactive ability to solve problems under time pressure, a strong commitment to providing client-centered services for clients experiencing trauma, and an ability to work collaboratively with a team of attorneys, paralegals, and volunteers working on a broad range of legal matters impacting the LGBTQ+ community. The Senior Peer Mentor also engages individuals who have survived an opioid overdose at partnering hospital emergency rooms to provide support, collaborate on tailored strategies to reduce future overdose, train on and dispense naloxone, and assist with connection to any needed community-based services. The Senior Peer Mentor conducts telephone and office-based follow up with individuals recently seen in the precinct or the hospital. Reporting to the AmeriCorps Coordinator, the Associates will help advance the organization’s goal of a more humane approach in traditional landlord-tenant courts, while helping tenants avoid eviction. Position Summary: Build Up Justice NYC's Community & Economic Development Program uses the tools of corporate and transactional law to promote racial, social, and economic justice across the communities of New York City. The CED Program represents: (1) small businesses struggling through the economic impacts of gentrification and the pandemic, especially with commercial lease issues; (2) community groups and non-profits that need legal support to start up, grow, stay in compliance, and achieve their goals; (3) worker-owned cooperatives and solidarity economy projects building more equitable ways of working and living; and (4) community activists fighting for equity for their communities and building grassroots power in movements for racial and economic justice. The Deputy Director, as a team leader, will be responsible managing staff attorneys and other program staff to include providing feedback and mentorship and will represent the CED team at both internal and external events and/or meetings. In addition to managing their own case load, they will ensure that legal services are accessible and client- and community-centered. Job Description Summary: Safe Horizon’s Anti-Trafficking Program (ATP) is one of the largest providers on the East Coast and one of the only providers in New York State offering comprehensive services to survivors of all types of human trafficking, including labor trafficking. Our program applies a multi-tiered approach to eradicating human trafficking. We provide intensive case management, supportive counseling and legal services to holistically meet the needs of trafficked persons. While recognizing that client services alone will not turn the tide on human trafficking, our Anti-Trafficking Program also offers community education, technical assistance, training and advocacy to foster systemic change. The Training and Outreach Manager is responsible for developing and implementing training programs, in coordination with ATP staff, with the primary goal of assisting grantees of the Department of Justice (DOJ), Office of Victims of Crime (OVC) Enhanced Collaborative Model to Combat Human Trafficking (ECM), in particular the Brooklyn Human Trafficking Task Force (BKHTTF), to improve community prevention of, and response to, the crimes of human trafficking, both sex and labor. The Training and Outreach Manager will continue to develop our existing training modules, outreach campaign and materials, in collaboration with Kings County District Attorney Office (KCDAO)’s BKHTTF Director. The Training and Outreach Manager, in conjunction with KCDAO staff, will conduct training and outreach activities in high-risk areas of NYC with the goal to increase awareness of human trafficking, and to increase trust between communities and law enforcement agents. This position will require travel within New York City, some limited travel out of state and some weekend and off hour work. Job DescriptionApicha Community Health Center aims to improve community health by providing access to comprehensive primary care, preventive health services, mental health, and supportive services. Position summary: Provides clinical behavioral health services to all age patients/families in Apicha Community Health Center.
