Position Summary The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) provides high-quality patient care and safe medical transportation under both emergency and non-emergency conditions. This position delivers Basic Life Support (BLS) services, performs thorough patient assessments, and ensures timely, safe transport in accordance with Metro Ambulance standards, protocols, and NJ Department of Health regulations. You’ll represent Metro Ambulance with professionalism, compassion, and a focus on safety — every patient, every time. Key Responsibilities * Provide Basic Life Support (BLS) in accordance with NJ EMS protocols, including patient assessments, airway management, bleeding control, oxygen administration, AED use, CPR, and other non-invasive interventions. * Safely lift, move, and secure patients using stretchers, stair chairs, wheelchairs, and other approved devices. * Monitor patient condition during transport and communicate any changes promptly to dispatch and receiving staff. * Maintain patient dignity, safety, and comfort while communicating with empathy and respect. * Operate emergency vehicles safely under all conditions, following all traffic laws and company driving policies. * Accurately document all care and transport activities in electronic or written trip reports. * Inspect, clean, and restock ambulances and equipment to maintain operational readiness and infection-control standards. * Communicate clearly with dispatch, partners, facility staff, and healthcare professionals to coordinate care and ensure efficiency. * Participate in ongoing training, refreshers, and professional development to maintain certifications and clinical excellence. * Support teammates and supervisors by maintaining a collaborative, team-focused environment. Qualifications * Current New Jersey EMT Certification (EMT-B or equivalent) * Current CPR/BLS certification * Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record (required for driver-designated EMTs) * Ability to pass background checks, fingerprinting, drug screening, and physical capability assessment * Strong communication and teamwork skills with the ability to remain calm and make sound decisions under pressure Physical Requirements * Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 300 lbs. with assistance using proper body mechanics * Ability to stand, walk, bend, and drive for extended periods (8–12-hour shifts) * Ability to tolerate outdoor conditions, confined spaces, and unpredictable environments * Ability to perform fine motor tasks and repetitive hand movements during patient care Work Environment * Exposure to bodily fluids, infectious diseases, and emotionally challenging situations * Work performed both indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions * Irregular hours, including weekends, evenings, holidays, and overtime as needed Compensation & Benefits * Hourly pay: $19.00–$25.00/hour, based on experience * Health, Dental, Vision, and Life Insurance * Paid Time Off (PTO) * Tuition Reimbursement and Continuing Education Support * Weekly Direct Deposit * Flexible Scheduling and Bonus Opportunities Our Hiring Process We believe in transparency and respect at every step.
