Job Description Summary: The Quality Manager is responsible for managing the plant’s Quality Assurance Department, ensuring the plant produces high quality products that meet customer expectations while maintaining compliance with USDA/other applicable regulations, as well as company policies and procedures. He/she provides solid leadership to achieve company, plant, and department goals through various management, evaluation and improvement skills and strategies that improve overall quality and profitability. Essential Functions: 1. Oversees the QA staff and ensures that all QA and regulatory programs are followed, makes sound decisions and executes quality oversight., 2. Executes quality objectives as directed by the Plant Manager and Operations Manager, as well as ensures adherence and execution of all company policies and programs associated with Foods Safety, Quality, and Regulatory Compliance., 3. Verifies that all production team members are in compliance with HACCP guidelines, GMPs, SSOP’s, and quality procedures., 4. Works with QA staff members to prevent process or product failures. Focuses on continuous improvement of product quality through the development of quality plans, process controls, attention to process details and specifications and quality training., 5. Responsible for managing performance plans, work schedules, vacations, assignments, training and personnel development for direct reports., 6. Ensures that operational and pre-operational sanitation is acceptable. Implements and develops necessary verification activities including micro sampling to verify the effectiveness of sanitation activities. Ensures GMP and Sanitation audits are conducted by the department as required with documented corrective actions and follow-up as necessary., 7. Collects product samples and performs sensory evaluations on finished products., 8. Collaborates with production team members and supervisors on quality and food safety issues., 9. Places product holds and releases, as needed., 10. Conducts microbiological testing according to sampling procedures. Promptly communicates any deficiencies with the lab and management and determines corrective/follow up actions., 11. Ensures all Quality Assurance records are completed timely and accurately and properly organized., 12. Other job duties as assigned. Education & Experience: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. 1. Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Microbiology, Biology, or Food/ Meat Science, HACCP Training certification and experience in HACCP implementation and verification, previous experience with BRC or SQF audits., 2. 5+ years’ experience in the food industry; or equivalent combination of education and experience., 3. Minimum of 2+ years’ experience in a position of leadership to include team development and management, required., 4. Knowledge and understanding of quality assurance principles, food science and meat processing., 5. Comprehensive knowledge of USDA, GMP, HACCP, and SSOP requirements., 6. Knowledge of Microsoft office and QMS systems., 7. Ability to uphold regulatory, company and customer standards., 8. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from management, customers or regulatory agencies., 9. Excellent oral and written communication skills., 10. Strong decision making and problem-solving skills., 11. Strong attention to detail., 12. Ability to work well with others in fast paced environment., 13. Ability to be respectful, approachable and team oriented while building strong working relationships and a positive work environment., 14. Excellent planning and organizational skills with demonstrated multi-tasking and project management skills., 15. Ability to work 10–12 hour shifts and weekends as needed., 16. Bilingual – English and Spanish Supervisory Responsibilities 1. Provides leadership and guidance to employees in the Quality Assurance Department., 2. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws., 3. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and assisting in providing appropriate resolutions, while working closely with the Human Resources Department. Working Conditions/Environmental/Physical Demands: 1. Office and plant setting. The plant environment will include wet or humid conditions (non-weather related), extreme cold and heat (non-weather related), working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to fumes and chemicals., 2. This position also requires standing, walking, bending, climbing, kneeling, squatting, reaching, driving, using ladders or stairs and pushing and/or pulling up to 100 pounds.
