American Traveler is seeking a travel nurse RN ICU - Intensive Care Unit for a travel nursing job in Chandler, Arizona. Job Description & Requirements • Specialty: ICU - Intensive Care Unit, • Discipline: RN, • Start Date: 04/13/2026, • Duration: 13 weeks, • 36 hours per week, • Shift: 12 hours, nights, • Employment Type: Travel Assignment Overview • Shift: Nights, 3x12hrs, • Hours: 36 hrs/wk, • Start Date: Apr 13, 2026, • Length: 13 weeks, • Acute care hospital setting at a Level 1 Trauma Center, • Assignment covers two ICU units: a Surgical ICU (Trauma/Neuro Surgery, 32 beds) and a Medical/Cardiac ICU with overflow (36-bed + 12-bed overflow), • Surgical ICU patient population includes Level 1 trauma (falls, GSW, blunt trauma, MVAs) for patients 15+, ex-lap, craniotomy, specialty neuro-surgery, CVA, post-tPA, COVID, sepsis, and ARDS, • Medical/Cardiac ICU patient population includes sepsis, COVID, CRRT, DKA, flu, ARDS, vascular surgeries, CABG (on/off pump), valve procedures, post-cath, TAVR, IABP, Impella, ECMO, Tandem Heart, and esophagectomies, • Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:2 or 1:1 depending on acuity, • RNs are required to titrate drips including Propofol, Fentanyl, Versed, Precedex, Morphine, Dilaudid, Ketamine, Rocuronium, Levophed, Vasopressin, Cardene, Labetalol, Dopamine, Dobutamine, Heparin, and Insulin, • Charting system: Cerner, • Respiratory therapy staff and intensivists are on-site 24/7, • RT equipment includes Draeger, Hamilton, Puritan Bennett 840, V60 BiPAP, and Airvo ventilators, • GE telemetry monitors are used; no monitor techs on unit — RNs are required to independently interpret cardiac strips, • 12-hour night shifts; self-scheduling with manager balancing as needed for unit needs, • Weekend requirement: 3 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule; night shift weekends are Friday–Saturday, • No additional call or standby shifts required, • Travelers are first to float; floating may occur to a telemetry unit (1:3 or 1:4 ratio) or to the sister facility (Mercy Gilbert), • Expectation to float between all 3 ICUs (SICU, Medical/Cardiac ICU, and overflow ICU)Requirements, • Active AZ RN license or Compact (NLC) RN license required; must be active at time of consideration — pending licenses are not accepted, • Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS — all must be active; pending certifications are not accepted, • Minimum 3 years of recent ICU experience required — no exceptions; at least 2 of those years must be in an ICU setting, • Experience must include either neuro or cardiovascular ICU care, • Experience at a similarly sized ICU is preferred; Level 1 trauma or neuro experience preferred but not required, • Must pass the Relias Dysrhythmia (UNA) exam prior to offer acceptance — maximum of 2 attempts allowed, • 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire, • A valid driver's license is required for considerationAdditional Information, • A pass/fail Simulation Lab assessment covering sterile technique for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes is conducted on Day 1 of orientation, • Unit-specific orientation is 1–2 days; skills validation for trauma, neuro, and specialty devices will be conducted as needed, • Charge nurses are present on unit and do not take patients; no nurse aides on unit (used only as sitters or Health Unit Secretaries), • Candidates may have 1 holiday off during the assignment, • Scrub color: Navy, • First-time travelers are welcome to apply, provided the 3-year experience requirement is met, • Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility to qualify for travel rates; a driver's license is used to verify permanent address With thousands of travel nursing and allied jobs nationwide, our attentive and approachable recruiters find positions that align perfectly with your career aspirations and personal requirements.
