Job Description Job Title: Pipefitter – Brazing (Industrial Brazing Technician) Job Description This role focuses on assembling and brazing large diameter copper and steel piping systems for natural gas, chiller, and industrial HVAC applications. You will perform heavy industrial torch brazing on 1-inch to 4-inch piping, working with complex joints in all positions and controlling high brazing temperatures to meet strict quality and safety standards. This position is ideal for experienced industrial brazers, pipefitters, or TIG welders who are comfortable in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and committed to precision, safety, and continuous improvement. Responsibilities • Perform torch brazing on piping systems ranging from 1-inch to 4-inch diameter using oxy-acetylene and oxy-propane torches., • Braze copper to copper, copper to steel, and copper to brass joints for natural gas and industrial HVAC systems., • Assemble and join copper, steel, and alloy components used in chillers and HVAC systems., • Carry out brazing operations on piping, coils, compressors, valves, and fittings., • Complete brazed joints in multiple positions, including uphill, downhill, and horizontal orientations., • Heat joints to controlled brazing temperatures, typically between 600°ree;C and 900°ree;C (1,100°ree;F–1,650°ree;F), depending on base metals and filler materials., • Apply silver-based and copper-phosphorus filler alloys with melting ranges between 620°ree;C and 780°ree;C (1,150°ree;F–1,435°ree;F)., • Monitor flame characteristics and heat distribution to ensure proper filler flow and prevent overheating, oxidation, or distortion., • Use continuous nitrogen purging during brazing to prevent internal oxidation and carbon buildup., • Prepare joints by cleaning, fitting, and aligning components prior to heating to ensure proper fit-up and quality., • Inspect brazed joints visually and mechanically to verify proper flow, penetration, and structural integrity., • Perform pressure and leak testing using approved methods such as nitrogen testing and soap solution., • Repair defective joints and perform controlled rework following approved procedures and quality standards., • Maintain torches, regulators, temperature indicators, and gas supply systems to ensure safe and reliable operation., • Follow hot work permits, fire prevention protocols, and required personal protective equipment (PPE) procedures., • Record process parameters and report deviations from approved temperature ranges and procedures., • Participate in quality initiatives and continuous improvement activities within the manufacturing environment., • Read and interpret technical drawings and piping schematics to ensure correct assembly and brazing., • Work within production schedules, including mandatory overtime when needed, to meet production deadlines., • Adhere to all safety, quality, and manufacturing standards while performing daily tasks. Essential Skills • Proven experience as a Pipefitter, TIG Welder, or Industrial Brazing Technician in a heavy industrial environment., • Hands-on experience with heavy industrial torch brazing, including control of higher brazing temperatures., • Experience working with larger diameter pipe (1-inch to 4-inch); proficiency with either small or large pipe is acceptable., • Demonstrated ability to braze copper to copper, copper to steel, and copper to brass joints., • Experience achieving and controlling industrial brazing temperatures appropriate for various base metals and filler materials., • Ability to perform brazing in all joint positions, including uphill, downhill, and horizontal., • Strong understanding of heat control, joint preparation, and filler material selection., • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and piping schematics., • Familiarity with applicable pressure equipment and piping codes that govern design, fabrication, welding/brazing, inspection, and testing., • Ability to successfully complete a braze test as part of the hiring process., • Familiarity with oxy-acetylene gas and oxy-propane torches for brazing., • Comfort working in a manufacturing environment with production deadlines and mandatory overtime when required., • Ability to lift and move up to 45 pounds, stand for most of the day, and perform physical tasks such as walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and climbing portable ladders., • Good manual dexterity and multi-limb coordination for precise torch and filler control. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Completion of a welding or brazing technical training program is preferred., • Experience in manufacturing, pipefitting, or industrial assembly is preferred., • Experience using hand tools, power tools, and saws in a manufacturing or assembly environment., • Experience with plumbing, blueprint reading, and manufacturing processes., • Familiarity with assembly of copper, steel, and alloy components used in chillers and HVAC systems., • Ability to work effectively in a fast-growing, dynamic environment with an entrepreneurial mindset., • Strong commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement. Work Environment This position is based in an air-conditioned, modern manufacturing facility that incorporates industry 4.0 technology and supports green industry initiatives. The standard schedule runs Monday through Thursday from 5:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Mesa 2 location, with mandatory overtime on Fridays as needed to meet production deadlines. The role is physically demanding and requires the ability to lift and move up to 45 pounds, stand for most of the day, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb portable ladders. You will regularly use hand tools, power tools, saws, torches, regulators, and other brazing and assembly equipment. Proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required at all times, and strict adherence to hot work permits and fire prevention protocols is expected. The dress code includes steel-toe footwear, jeans or work pants, and a T-shirt or polo.
