Job DescriptionJob Title: Welder Fitter Job Description This role involves performing TIG and MIG welding on a variety of assemblies, supporting a journeyman welder with fit-up and fabrication, and working from blueprints to produce high-quality welded components. You will work with exotic materials and various thicknesses while using fixtures, weld symbols, and proper documentation practices to ensure consistent, traceable results on-site in El Cajon, CA. Responsibilities • Perform TIG and MIG (GTAW and GMAW) welding on a wide range of assemblies according to engineering drawings and specifications., • Assist a journeyman welder with fit-up and fabrication tasks, including positioning and aligning components prior to welding., • Read and interpret blueprints, weld symbols, and travelers to determine welding requirements, materials, and sequence of operations., • Use fixtures and appropriate setup techniques to hold parts in place and maintain alignment during welding., • Operate hand grinders and related tools to prepare joints, clean welds, and finish welded components as required., • Weld exotic materials, including alloys, Inconel, and 300/400 series stainless steel, while following proper procedures for each material type., • Weld materials of different thicknesses, including .032, .060, .090, and .188, ensuring proper penetration and weld quality for each thickness., • Apply welding techniques using back gaps and other methods as specified to achieve strong, consistent welds., • Set up welding machines, including adjusting amperage and other parameters, to match the requirements of each job., • Document work accurately, including recording the type of rod used, weld type, materials, and other relevant details for traceability., • Identify materials correctly and record them on travelers or job documentation to ensure proper tracking and quality control., • Fabricate parts under supervision, following instructions and feedback to improve technique and efficiency., • Work on assigned jobs both within and adjacent to the welding field, contributing to related tasks as needed to support production.Essential Skills, • Hands-on experience performing TIG and MIG welding on assemblies., • Proficiency in GTAW and GMAW welding processes., • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and weld symbols., • Experience using fixtures to position and hold parts during welding., • Skill in welding exotic materials such as alloys, Inconel, and 300/400 series stainless steel., • Ability to weld different material thicknesses, including .032, .060, .090, and .188., • Experience setting up weld machines, including amperage and other parameters., • Competence in operating hand grinders for weld preparation and finishing., • Ability to document work accurately, including recording rods used, weld types, and materials., • Capability to identify materials and record them on travelers or job documentation., • Willingness to work on assigned jobs inside and outside the core welding field., • Ability to fabricate parts under supervision and follow detailed instructions., • Ownership of a welding hood suitable for daily use.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • Experience welding using back gaps and other specialized welding techniques., • Background working with a variety of alloys and stainless steel grades in a production environment., • Familiarity with shop travelers and structured documentation processes., • Comfort working closely with journeyman welders and following guidance to refine skills., • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality welds and fabrications.Why Work Here? The role follows a 1st shift weekend schedule, Friday through Sunday, from 5:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., with additional compensated hours to reach a 40-hour workweek. The environment emphasizes safe, organized, and documented work practices, with clear travelers and instructions guiding each job. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of El Cajon, CA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr.
