Job Description SUMMARY The Journeyman Welder is responsible for permanently fitting and welding of various metals to include but not limited to; steel, aluminum,and stainless steel parts using high heat application to form a permanent bond. May specialize in one of hundreds of different processes of welding to join metals together. Certification may be required depending of job specifications. ESSENTIAL DUTIES • Read blueprints and drawings and take or read measurements to plan layout and procedures, • Be proficient in MIG (GMAW), TIG (GTAW), and Stick (SMAW) as required, • Determine the appropriate welding equipment or method based on requirements, • Set up components for welding according to specifications (e.g. cut material with powered saws to match measurements), • Operate angle grinders to prepare the parts that must be welded, • Align components using calipers, rulers etc. and clamp pieces, • Weld components using manual or semi-automatic welding equipment in various positions (vertical, horizontal or overhead), • Repair machinery and other components by welding pieces and filling gaps, • Test and inspect welded surfaces and structure to discover flaws, • Maintain equipment in a condition that does not compromise safety, • Determine welding position and type of metal to be fused, • Ensure welds meet standards and specifications, • Supervise machines or robots that perform automated welding tasks, • Operate heavy equipment and machinery in the performance of these essential duties, • Work with and around hazardous materials, as well as at heights and in confined spaces in the performance of these essential duties, • Drive a vehicle to various jobsites throughout working hours a.
