Job Description Job Title: Shipping and Receiving Clerk – Day Shift (6:00 AM – 2:30 PM, Monday–Friday) Job Description The Shipping and Receiving Clerk plays a key role in ensuring that materials, goods, and supplies move efficiently in and out of a busy warehouse environment. This position focuses on safely operating forklifts to handle heavy metal materials, accurately preparing and processing shipments, receiving and measuring incoming materials, and maintaining organized inventory and documentation. You will spend most of your time on a forklift, with additional responsibilities in loading, picking, packing, and basic data entry. Responsibilities • Load and unload material from delivery trucks in a safe and efficient manner., • Prepare items for shipment according to customer specifications, quality requirements, and delivery dates., • Prepare and process shipping paperwork for both domestic and export orders, ensuring accuracy and completeness., • Use measuring tools such as tape measures, micrometers, nibblers, and calipers with precision to verify material dimensions and gauge., • Measure materials upon arrival to the warehouse in raw, uncut form and check the gauge of materials using a micrometer., • Pull and stage material according to the bill of lading and customer orders., • Perform dock audits to verify that the correct materials and quantities are shipped to each customer., • Obtain proof of identity from carriers and secure appropriate signatures on bills of lading and related documents., • Drive a forklift throughout the plant to move material and skids to designated storage, staging, and loading areas safely., • Move heavy metal materials on racks using strong forklift skills, including lifting up to approximately 4,000 pounds and handling thick metal sheets., • Perform order picking, packing, and labeling tasks as needed to complete shipments., • Support inventory control activities, including counting, tracking, and recording inventory using RF scanners and basic computer data entry., • Use RF scanners to scan, track, and update inventory and shipment information., • Maintain adequate levels of shipping supplies and notify appropriate personnel when replenishment is needed., • Keep the immediate work area, warehouse aisles, and dock areas clean, organized, and free of hazards throughout the day., • Follow all safety rules, regulations, and quality standards established by the organization., • Adhere to all handbook policies and procedures, including operational, safety, and conduct guidelines., • Communicate effectively with co-workers, carriers, and other departments to coordinate shipments and receipts., • Work independently on assigned tasks while accepting direction and feedback from supervisors., • Operate with high integrity and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, customers, and suppliers. Essential Skills • High school diploma or equivalent., • Minimum 2 years of experience as a packer, warehouse worker, or in general labor roles., • Minimum 4 years of recent work experience in a manufacturing environment., • Minimum 4 years of heavy forklift experience, including lifting up to approximately 4,000 pounds of metal materials and handling thick metal sheets., • Strong forklift operating skills with the ability to move heavy material on racks safely and efficiently., • Experience in shipping and receiving operations within a warehouse environment., • Ability to measure using different tools, including tape measures, micrometers, nibblers, and calipers., • Ability to read and calculate numbers and data accurately for measurements, counts, and documentation., • Basic computer skills to perform light data entry and work with shipping and inventory systems., • Experience with RF scanners for picking, packing, inventory control, and shipping/receiving tasks., • Good written and oral communication skills to interact with team members, carriers, and other departments., • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and time management skills to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines., • Ability to work independently on assigned tasks and follow directions effectively., • Strong work ethic and initiative, with a focus on accuracy, safety, and reliability., • Ability to perform physical tasks such as sitting, standing, bending, climbing, kneeling, crawling, twisting, balancing, and using hands or fingers., • Ability to lift and push/pull up to 50 pounds, with assistance or lifting devices available when needed., • Ability to maintain frequent visual and auditory attention in a busy warehouse environment. Additional Skills & Qualifications • One or more years of experience specifically in warehouse shipping and receiving roles is preferred., • Previous experience in metals or aerospace-related warehouses is preferred but not required (for example, working with metal distributors or similar environments)., • Experience in inventory control, order picking, loading, and general warehouse operations., • Experience using RF scanners for inventory and order processing., • Familiarity with handling metal materials, including sheets and heavy stock, is a plus., • Demonstrated ability to maintain positive relationships with co-workers, customers, and suppliers., • Comfort working around hazardous machinery, sharp tools, moving objects, noise, heat, and humidity with appropriate safety practices., • Willingness to follow established procedures while adapting to process changes as business needs evolve. Work Environment This role is based in a warehouse environment with good general working conditions and frequent visual and auditory attention required, particularly when placing tags, operating forklifts, and handling materials. You will work primarily on a sit-down forklift, with approximately 70% of your time spent operating the forklift and 30% on loading, picking, packing, inventory control, RF scanning, and light computer data entry. The facility includes exposure to hazardous machinery, sharp tools, moving objects, noise, heat, and humidity, and appropriate safety procedures and equipment are in place. Work involves continuous use of computers and RF scanners to receive and provide information. The position requires regular physical activity such as standing, sitting, bending, climbing, kneeling, twisting, balancing, and lifting or pushing/pulling up to 50 pounds, with assistance or lifting devices available when needed.
