Job Description Position Title: Visitor Services Associate (TEMPORARY) Department: Front of House Reports To: Director of Museum Experience Position Classification: Non-Exempt (Hourly) Temporary, NOT Benefits-Eligible Uniformed position: Yes, Branded QM clothing Work Location: Onsite at the Queens Museum Work Schedule: Must be available to work a minimum of 2 weekdays and 1 weekend shift Wednesday - Sunday between the hours of 9:30am and 5:30pm Rate of Pay: $19.00 per hour Management Classification: Non-Supervisory About the Queens Museum The Queens Museum is dedicated to presenting the highest quality visual arts and educational programming for people in the New York metropolitan area, and particularly for the residents of Queens, a uniquely diverse, ethnic, cultural, and international community. The Museum fulfills its mission by designing and providing art exhibitions, public programs, and educational experiences that promote the appreciation and enjoyment of art, support the creative efforts of artists, and enhance the quality of life through interpreting, collecting, and exhibiting art, architecture, and design. Position Overview Visitor Services Associates are public-facing representatives of the Queens Museum (QM). Working as part of the Visitor Services Team, they assist visitors in a cordial and service-oriented manner to facilitate an overall positive experience at the Museum. Visitor Services Associates provide admissions and wayfinding support and ensure that visitors have access to information about the QM’s exhibitions and programs. QM is seeking energetic and outgoing individuals with a passion for art and culture, to help create a welcoming atmosphere as visitor’s first point of contact in the QM galleries and the Admissions Desk. Ideal candidates will be team players with strong interpersonal and communications skills and prior work experience in Customer/Guest Services, the Hospitality Industry, and/or Museum Visitor Services. Bilingual and Multilingual individuals and residents of Queens are strongly encouraged to apply. Essential Functions * Support the Visitor Services team in all operational aspects including ticketing, admissions, wayfinding support, line facilitation, school and group tours, exhibition and events setups * Create a warm and welcoming QM; greet and enthusiastically welcome every visitor of the Queens Museum upon arrival * Engage with all visitors of the Queens Museum in the galleries and public-facing areas * Inform all Museum visitors of the exhibitions, educational experiences, and public programs happening at the Queens Museum * Serve as a key knowledge holder and informational resource; keep up to date on the QM’s programmatic offerings and other cultural attractions and community resources located in Flushing-Meadows Corona Park * Ensure that appropriate actions are taken to resolve visitor concerns and questions * Support the team in the setup, facilitation, and break down of special events, public programs and workshops * Other related duties as assigned by management This list represents the essential functions of the role, this list does not constitute an exhaustive list of job functions Competencies * Ability to communicate clearly, effectively and professionally with visitors and staff * Ability to work high-volume and attendance public events * Thrives in culturally diverse and team settings Qualifications * Prior customer service and cash-handling point of sale experience * Proficient computer skills * Ability to interface with the public * Interest in Museums, Arts & Culture, community building and learning * Strong interpersonal and communications skills Requirements * Prior working experience in a Customer Service, Hospitality, Guest & Concierge Services and/or Museum Visitor Services role * Availability to work evenings, weekends and holidays (as needed) * Spanish, Mandarin, Bangla and ASL language skills are strongly desired Benefits This is NOT a benefits eligible position.
