Job Description Summary: Streetwork Project is the oldest street outreach program for homeless and street-involved youth in New York City. The program has grown from its beginnings in 1984 as a storefront project to encompass both outreach and comprehensive harm reduction services. The core service is long-term, one-on-one counseling, which is offered in a non-judgmental and holistic manner utilizing a harm reduction approach that focuses on building trust, fostering self-esteem, exploring options and choices, and empowering youth to change their high-risk behaviors. The Public Benefits Coordinator will work with clients on accessing emergency and long-term benefits. The core of the benefit assistance will include advocacy for acquiring and navigating cash assistance, food stamp (SNAP), Medicaid and disability-income programs (SSI and WeCARE). The Public Benefits Advocate will also provide trainings to Streetwork staff and provide technical assistance on individual cases with Case Managers and other staff members. Operating out of Kings County Criminal Court and community-based offices, BJI is a team of social service providers, court-based resource coordinators, mental health practitioners, compliance specialists, and others who seek to improve the quality of justice. BJI is seeking a Court Liaison, Supervised Release Program. Reporting to the Supervising Court Liaison, the Court Liaison will coordinate with court stakeholders to ensure the successful release of program participants to the Brooklyn SRP. The Court Liaison will review all available court-related information about each participant released under supervision to complete the necessary paperwork.
