American Traveler is seeking a travel nurse RN ICU - Intensive Care Unit for a travel nursing job in Bakersfield, California. Job Description & Requirements • Specialty: ICU - Intensive Care Unit, • Discipline: RN, • Start Date: 01/05/2026, • Duration: 13 weeks, • 36 hours per week, • Shift: 12 hours, days, • Work in a 24-bed ICU with capacity up to 32 beds in an acute care hospital setting, • Patient population includes respiratory failure, sepsis, AMI, ARDS, GI bleed, CABG, TAVR, Impella, vascular and neuro surgeries, and CVAs, • Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:1 or 1:2, with intensivist coverage on-site during the day and on-call after hours, • Uses Cerner EMR, with Spacelabs telemetry monitoring, • Shifts are 12 hours, days, with every other weekend or equivalent of 4 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule, • Must be willing to float to MedSurg/Tele units including 4E, 4W, 5E, 5W, and 6E, with travelers floating first, • Basic EKG interpretation test and additional critical care competency testing during orientation, • Orientation includes 2 shifts on the unit and cross-orientation to East and West towers for floating purposes, • Nurses are responsible for interpreting their own telemetry strips and performing all nursing duties specific to the ICU, • Navy blue scrubs are required, including jackets and undershirts in navy, white, or black, • Expect multidisciplinary rounds and participation in care for diverse, high-acuity cases, • Support staff includes a charge nurse and free resource nurse; no nurse aides, • Unit has 24/7 RT and pharmacy services; pharmacist is dedicated on the unit during weekdays and limited hours on weekends, • Unit is expanding its neuro ICU capabilities; neuro experience is a plus, • Breaks comply with CA law: one 30-minute break (clock-out) and three 15-minute breaks per shift, • Must be willing and able to float as needed, • Candidates will not be considered if they have worked at associated health systems within the last year\n \n Requirements\n, • Active California RN license required at time of consideration, • Minimum of 2 years recent ICU experience required, • Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS, • Cerner EMR experience required, • Must pass basic and advanced EKG interpretation and sterile technique testing during orientation, • Two references required: one supervisor from the last year worked and one peer or supervisor from within the past 3 years, • Copy of driver’s license required, • No first-time travelers accepted, • Previous employees of CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity within the past year are not eligible\n Benefits\n, • High Pay and Bonuses, • Medical, Dental and Vision Insurance with Day 1 Options, • 401(k) Plan, • Weekly Payroll Deposit, • Free Online CEUs, • Generous Housing Allowance, • Travel and Licensure Reimbursements, • Non-taxed Per Diem and Subsidy With thousands of travel nursing and allied jobs nationwide, our attentive and approachable recruiters find positions that align perfectly with your career aspirations and personal requirements.
