American Traveler is seeking a travel nurse RN Telemetry Med Surg for a travel nursing job in Bakersfield, California. Job Description & Requirements • Specialty: Telemetry, • Discipline: RN, • Start Date: 02/16/2026, • Duration: 13 weeks, • 36 hours per week, • Shift: 12 hours, nights, • Work in the 30-bed Telemetry Stroke unit within an acute care hospital, • Care for high acuity, high-risk stroke and neurological patients, including post-ICU and neuro interventional radiology cases, • Patient ratio is 4:1 on the 5W Tele Stroke unit, • Uses Cerner EMR and Spacelabs telemetry monitoring equipment, • Night shift, 12-hour shifts, with every other weekend required, • First to float status, with possible floating to Med/Surg, other Telemetry units, or ICU with appropriate patient assignments, • Orientation includes 2 shifts on home unit plus an additional ICU orientation day, • Pagers connected to call light system and internal spectra link phones provided, • Responsible for monitoring, interpreting telemetry strips, titrating cardiac drips, and caring for a high-turnover patient population, • Support staff includes nurse aides and a resource nurse as needed, • Travelers receive orientation to both home and ICU units for potential float assignments, • Strict navy blue scrub dress code, including jackets and undershirts in navy, white, or black, • No first-time travelers accepted for this position, • Must not have been employed by the associated health system within the past year, • Annual stroke competency and potential for required clinical skills testing during orientation, • Pharmacy and RT support available 24/7 on the unit\n \n Requirements\n, • Active CA RN license required at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted, • Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS are required, • 3 years of recent acute care RN experience, including experience using NIHSS for stroke patients, • Strong telemetry and stepdown or high acuity unit experience preferred, • Experience titrating heparin, Amiodarone, Cardizem, and dopamine/dobutamine, • Completion of annual stroke competency required if on assignment during evaluation period, • Must provide 2 references: one from a supervisor within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from the last 3 years\n Benefits\n, • High Pay and Bonuses, • Medical, Dental and Vision Insurance with Day 1 Options, • 401(k) Plan, • Weekly Payroll Deposit, • Free Online CEUs, • Generous Housing Allowance, • Travel and Licensure Reimbursements, • Non-taxed Per Diem and Subsidy With thousands of travel nursing and allied jobs nationwide, our attentive and approachable recruiters find positions that align perfectly with your career aspirations and personal requirements.
