Job DescriptionPharmacy Technician Job Description Job Summary A Pharmacy Technician in Texas assists a licensed pharmacist in preparing and dispensing medications, maintaining records, and supporting daily pharmacy operations. All duties are performed under the supervision of a pharmacist and in compliance with state and federal regulations. Key ResponsibilitiesMedication Preparation & Dispensing • Prepare, count, package, and label prescription medications, • Assist in compounding medications (non-sterile/sterile as permitted), • Ensure all prescriptions are accurate for pharmacist verification, • Pre-package and organize medications for dispensingPrescription Processing, • Receive and enter prescription orders into pharmacy systems, • Verify patient information, allergies, and medication profiles, • Communicate with prescribers for clarification when neededInventory & Supply Management, • Maintain inventory of medications and supplies, • Order, receive, and stock pharmaceuticals, • Monitor expiration dates and remove outdated drugs, • Conduct routine inventory counts and auditsCustomer Service, • Assist patients with prescription pick-up and basic questions, • Handle phone calls and direct clinical questions to pharmacists, • Process transactions and insurance claimsAdministrative & Compliance Duties, • Maintain accurate records and documentation, • Ensure compliance with Texas State Board of Pharmacy rules, • Support audits, inspections, and quality assurance processes, • Maintain confidentiality (HIPAA compliance)Operational Support, • Deliver medications within facility (hospital/long-term care settings), • Maintain clean, organized, and compliant pharmacy work areas, • Assist pharmacists with daily workflow and special projects Qualifications • High school diploma or GED, • Registered with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy, • Pharmacy Technician Trainee or, • Registered Pharmacy Technician (RPhT), • National certification (e.g., PTCB or ExCPT) required for full registration in most cases, • Basic knowledge of pharmacy operations and medication terminology Required Skills • Strong attention to detail and accuracy, • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, • Excellent communication and customer service skills, • Basic math and data entry skills, • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism, • A must Bilingual (frequent in Spanish and English) Work Environment • Retail pharmacy (Independent Pharmacy), • Standing for extended periods, • May include evenings, weekends, or rotating shifts Scope of Practice • Must work under direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist, • Cannot perform duties requiring professional judgment (e.g., clinical counseling) By applying to this job, you agree to receive periodic text messages from this employer and Homebase about your pending job application.
