Position Summary: The Paralegal will work closely with staff attorneys to ensure the successful and smooth operation of its legal and administrative functions, including client communication and case support, assisting with the drafting of pleadings and papers; case filing; case intake, including with administrative investigations and complaints; records management for the Program; case/data tracking; and answering phone calls. The Crisis Management System is a supporting a set of interrelated services to reduce gun violence in over 88 schools across 40 target neighborhoods. The school-based services component is designed to provide culturally competent programming to at-risk youth to reduce the likelihood of their involvement in violence in their school or community with the goal of increasing their engagement at school as measured through attendance, academic progress, and other measures. The program can also include school-wide activities to assist in changing the culture around violence and to assist schools in their response to incidents that occur in the school or community. Participants should reside in or near the target Cure Violence (CV) catchment area, and be selected based on their risk for, and previously documented engagement in, violence or other infractions in the school or community in consultation with the principal or other school-based leaders plus the designated service provider. PROGRAM SUMMARY CJA operates a Supervised Release Program in Queens Criminal Court for defendants of all ages who are charged with felonies and misdemeanors, and who present a substantial likelihood of detention, but are at risk of failing to appear in court if released on recognizance. The program, which operates during the day and night court, screens targeted defendants for release, subject to specific conditions including maintaining face-to-face and telephone contact with the program, participating in a screening protocol for substance abuse and mental health issues, and agreeing to program monitoring and reporting of non-compliance, re-arrests and scheduled court appearances. POSITION SUMMARY Reporting to the Supervising Clinical Case Manager and under the direction of the Clinical Director, the Case Manager is a dynamic, knowledgeable, and experienced individual with a social service, psychology, or clinical background to help make an impact on the ever-changing role of the court system and alternative initiatives aimed at reducing detention and crime rates in the city.
