Job Description JOB OVERVIEW Under general supervision, the driver/residential aide (D/RA) ensures an efficient and positive work environment at the shelter. Responsibilities include safely and orderly transporting staff, clients, and supplies (using a 14-passenger van) to different locations within New York City. Additionally, the D/RA performs various office tasks to oversee and support client needs onsite. This role involves collaborating with leadership, social services, and security personnel to maintain a safe shelter environment for families, engaging directly with clients, and ensuring proper documentation procedures are followed. Overtime shifts may be required. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS DRIVER • Keep detailed vehicle trip logs., • Perform regular preventive maintenance to ensure vehicle reliability., • Maintain regular fueling and cleaning schedules for the vehicle., • Ensure proper identification and logging of all visitors in the logbook and the online Midway Living database system., • Offer professional greetings to all residents, visitors, and colleagues., • Complete and submit arrival packets (via paper and via the database system) for new residents, exit logs, daily occupancy forms, etc., adhering to Midway Living, the Department of Homeless Services (DHS), and Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance (OTDA) guidelines., • Record and file all incidents appropriately in the incident binder. Generate and submit detailed incident reports via email, including information about the incident and the names of first responders (police, ambulance, fire department, ACS, political parties, news outlets)., • Supervise incident management involving clients and other staff as required., • Maintain various logs including school attendance, Administration for Children's Services (ACS), emergency contacts, and shift summaries, etc., • Responsible for conducting partial intake assessments, including but not limited to, clients., • Conduct crib audits to assess compliance with "Safe Sleeping" standards and report findings., • Enforce the curfew regulations and conduct room checks and hourly rounds as required., • Ensure timely and accurate completion of Nightly Signature Rosters, record on Midway Living website, and file all relevant paperwork relating to shift., • Distribute DHS notices such as 4002 notices, appointment slips, and mail to residents., • Conduct inspections of units via tablet, and wellness checks to maintain a clean and healthy environment for clients., • Ensure thorough review and delivery of all relevant information and documentation to the incoming shift., • Maintain cleanliness and proper maintenance of office and equipment., • Record and distribute mail to clients., • Coordinate the food distribution process, including receiving deliveries, performing light food preparation (excluding cooking), serving food, and managing trash disposal (if applicable)., • Compile and submit via email detailed shift summary reports., • Collaborate with security staff to ensure a secure environment for employees, clients, and visitors., • Assist custodial and security staff with the maintenance and security of the facility., • Respond promptly and professionally to emergencies., • Support initiatives to transition families into permanent housing., • Assist in facilitating move-outs., • Prepare units for vacancies by emptying, cleaning, and tagging client materials as necessary., • Ensure that the lobby and front of the building are consistently cleared., • Prevent loitering in all areas within and surrounding the building., • Assist with fire drills/emergency evacuations., • Responsible for ensuring safety and providing general support to assigned programs across various departments or divisions., • Provide occasional instruction or assistance to other employees., • Regularly update progress on the Midway Living database system, • Fulfill other duties aligned with the scope and responsibilities of the position.EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE, • High School Diploma or equivalent, • Valid FO2 [required within 90 days of hire], • Knowledge of food/cafeteria services [food handlers a plus], • Ability to effectively interact with facility staff and clientsQUALIFICATIONS & PREFERRED SKILLS, • Professionalism, • Attention to detail, • Communication skills, • Time management, • Ability to lift, push, and carry up to 50 lbs., as needed., • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and kneel for extended periods., • Capability to climb stairs and ladders as needed for tasks., • Dexterity to operate cleaning equipment [e.g. brooms, mops, vacuums, etc.], • Capacity to withstand exposure to cleaning chemicals and other maintenance-related substances and odors., • Capable of working in various positions [e.g., reaching overhead, working in tight spaces]., • Capability of work in areas with possible exposure to various weather conditions [if required to work outdoors]., • Ability to work in high-traffic areas with frequent interaction with staff, residents, and visitors., • Capacity to work in busy areas that may be noisy from residents, equipment, alarms, or facility operations., • Ability to work in fast-paced and physically demanding work setting., • Perform other related tasks as assigned.
