Job Description Job Summary: The Instrument Technician III will work with contracts and builders to manage, direct, and install electrical wiring and installation for projects throughout the refinery. Essential Functions: • Maintain and repair electronic and pneumatic instrumentation., • Collaborate with architects and engineers to determine the best placement of electrical wiring, • Maintain and troubleshoot various types of switches, meters, indicators, temperature sensors, positioners, controllers, control valves, and DCS loops, • Test devices for improvement, safety, and quality control, • Update older electrical systems for changes, cost reductions, improvements, safety, and quality control, • Repair broken equipment and wiring, • Review architectural plans, • Perform and analyze tests to track results and make improvements, • Work with builders and make recommendations, • Perform calibrations for wire placement and electronic components, • Responsible for all required electrical qualification tests on projects and ensure compliance with all outside parties involved, • Participate in test runs and meet safety regulations, • Be aware of and participate in Management of Change (MOC) activities, • Modify systems to be environmentally friendly, • Remove and repair, install and calibrate various transmitters and hart communication, • Use test equipment and perform routine calibrations, • Maintain various instrumentation loops, • Must be able to respond to callouts including weekends, and holidays that requires reliable attendance, • Repair or replace faulty components, • Identify, test and troubleshoot internal hardware, • Ability to train Level I and II Instrumentation Techs, • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned. Required Skills/Abilities: • Possess advanced knowledge of instrumentation math, units variables, and dimensions of measurement, • Demonstrate knowledge of flow, pressure, temperature, level instrumentation, and control power systems, • Familiar with Honeywell or similar DCS controls, analytical monitors for CEM (Continuous Emission Monitoring), • Working knowledge of control valves; MOV, • Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, loop drawings, and wiring schematics, • Strong ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently, • Creative problem solver who thrives when presented with a challenge, • Flexible and able to multitask on several different aspects of a project or on multiple projects, • Able to take initiative to recommend projects, product improvements, or cost reductions, • In-depth understanding of electrical regulations, construction, materials, and industry, • Strong mathematical and technical skills, • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, • Strong communication and teamwork skills, • Knowledge of local, state, and federal property and safety regulations, • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Supervisory Responsibilities: • None Education and Experience: • 6+ years experience as a Analyzer Technician, • 6+ years experience in refinery environment, • Advanced in Chromatograph Interpretation, • Able to Calibrate and Make Necessary Changes to GC, • Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, loop drawings, and wiring schematics., • Understanding of Continuous Emissions Monitoring process., • A strong understanding of various types of analyzer instruments and their operation., • High school / GED minimum; Associates degree or higher, • IBEW or trade school in electrical / instrumentation certification, • Must be able to pass a physical test of pushing, pulling, and lifting a minimum of 50 lbs, • Prolonged periods of standing and walking, • Ability to use hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls, • Perform repetitive movements over long periods of time, • Frequent reaching, stooping, twisting, bending, kneeling, crawling, and crouching, • Lift, position, push, and/or transfer equipment and materials, • Must be able to climb a minimum 30 foot ladder, • Requires lifting, positioning, pushing, and/or transferring equipment and materials, • Must be able to climb ladders and or stairs on tanks, vessels and structures; wear respirator; work around equipment containing high pressures and temperatures and various chemicals, • Exposed to seasonal weather based on geographic region, • Exposed to moving parts and electricity that require safety protocols Other duties Please note this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job.
