Job Description Material Handler Swing Shift: 2pm - 10pm Pay: $22 Location West Sacramento Job Description The Material Handler safely operates a sit-down forklift and performs material handling tasks to support daily plant operations. You will split your time between operating a forklift and manually moving and staging products, while maintaining accurate inventory of raw materials and finished goods. This role includes loading and unloading trucks, preparing materials for shipment, performing cycle counts, and keeping the work area clean and organized. The typical schedule is 2:30 PM to 10:00 PM, with occasional overtime as needed. Responsibilities • Operate a sit-down forklift approximately 50% of the time to move materials throughout the plant, including loading, unloading, and staging products., • Manually move, stage, and organize products and materials when not on the forklift, ensuring workflow continues smoothly throughout the day., • Load outgoing products onto shipping vehicles, ensuring cargo is loaded safely with weight distributed evenly throughout the vehicle., • Unload incoming products and move materials from inventory locations to appropriate departments in a timely and accurate manner., • Inspect outgoing and incoming materials to ensure they are shipped and received in the specified condition., • Count, weigh, or measure incoming and outgoing items and compare identifying information against bills of lading, orders, or other records., • Examine incoming shipments for damage or shortages and work with shippers to resolve issues, notifying quality personnel when necessary., • Complete all required paperwork and forms accurately for shipping, receiving, and inventory documentation., • Prepare materials for shipping by weighing, packaging, labeling, and staging orders for pickup or delivery., • Perform cycle counts and inventory checks to verify system records against actual stock levels and help maintain accurate inventory control., • Use RF scanners, computers, and related warehouse systems to track inventory, orders, and material movements., • Operate material handling equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, hand trucks, dollies, and related tools to move stock and reorganize storage areas., • Provide on-the-job training to new employees when needed and assist in resolving day-to-day issues using knowledge of shipping, receiving, and stock operations., • Follow established safety practices and guidelines at all times while operating equipment and handling materials., • Maintain general housekeeping in the work area by keeping aisles, storage locations, and workstations clean, organized, and free of hazards., • Stay actively engaged and productive throughout the shift, assisting with additional tasks as needed to support warehouse and plant operations. Essential Skills • At least one year of shipping and receiving experience, or an equivalent combination of experience and education that provides comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities., • Minimum of one year of forklift operating experience, specifically with sit-down forklifts., • Proficiency in material handling, including loading, unloading, picking, packing, and staging products., • Ability to operate forklifts and other material handling equipment such as pallet jacks, hand trucks, and dollies safely and efficiently., • Knowledge of safety practices related to warehouse, shipping, receiving, and material handling operations., • Ability to operate large vehicles and forklifts in tight and congested areas with attention to safety and surroundings., • Capability to lift and move heavy packages and objects, including lifting up to 50 pounds as needed., • Ability to multitask and handle various tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment., • Experience with inventory control, including cycle counts, order picking, and warehouse inventory management., • Basic computer skills and familiarity with RF scanners or similar devices for inventory and order tracking., • Strong verbal and written communication skills for coordinating with team members and completing documentation accurately., • Ability to sit for extended periods while operating equipment and to occasionally stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl as job duties require. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Experience in shipping and receiving environments, including preparing bills of lading and related documentation., • Background in packaging, labeling, and preparing materials for shipment in a warehouse or manufacturing setting., • Experience with order picking, loading, unloading, and staging materials in a production or distribution facility., • Familiarity with warehouse inventory systems and processes for tracking stock levels and material movements., • Ability to identify and report damaged materials, shortages, or quality issues and collaborate with shipping and quality teams to resolve problems., • Attention to detail when counting, weighing, or measuring items and verifying information against orders and records., • Comfort working with minimal supervision while maintaining productivity and accuracy., • Willingness to work a 2:30 PM to 10:00 PM shift and occasional overtime when required.
