Oversee and coordinate all the activities of yard operations, including but not limited to personnel management, equipment, yard facilities, customer service and inventory control. Provide exceptional customer service in a busy lumber yard environment. Promote a work environment of positivity, support for one another, and teamwork. Train, guide, and mentor employees on their specific job functions. Maintain staffing levels and a schedule that ensures exceptional customer service and operational optimization. Praise and discipline direct reports as needed. Use proper material handling practices to load, unload and store material appropriately through the safe use of proper tools and equipment. Maintain a clean and organized shopping experience and work environment. Work with other departments of the location and company in a positive and productive manner. Position Requirements: This position requires the incumbent to be flexible and adaptable to the changes that rapidly affect the job. Must be highly motivated, with the ability to multitask and prioritize responsibilities. Needs the skills to delegate, assign and direct employees to various responsibilities and tasks in the yard. This person must have the ability to work well with customers and employees and assume responsibility by leading by example. Strong communication and listening skills are required, as this person needs to be approachable and interact positively with customers and employees. This person must have an extensive understanding of safety procedures, customer service skills, products, yard equipment, and material handling. Must be able to listen to and evaluate customer and employee problems and come up with good solutions to resolve them in a fair manner. Organizational skills are a must. Duties Include: Safety • Comply with all safety policies and procedures, • Use proper PPE when and where required, • Maintain a safe and organized work environment, • Be aware of surroundings at all times, work safely and smartly, • Train and mentor employees on proper safety protocols, • Lead by example on safety. Address safety issues and praise good safety as you see it. Customer Service • Acknowledge, greet and assist customers in a timely and professional manner. Customer in the yard waiting is priority., • Provide accurate, efficient service to our customers in the yard. Direct and lead other employees with customer service., • Effectively research and resolve customer complaints or conflicts when they arise. Material Handling • Know product features, uses, proper storage and handling procedures, product location in the yard., • Share product knowledge with co-workers., • Maintain a neat, clean yard (level piles, bands, corner, wrappers, bolsters, and all other debris cleaned.), • Continuously rotate stock and make sure units are safely stacked, • Manage shrink by utilizing proper procedures in checking invoices, returns, and transfers for accuracy. Use proper procedures for damaged material., • Understand and follow stock and special-order receiving policy and procedures. Prepare for and unload incoming product efficiently., • Help stage loads for outgoing deliveries per company procedure. Use appropriate judgment in product quality, strapping, safety, and location to put load. Wrap all loads containing interior product no matter the weather., • Use yard equipment safely and as designed. Communicate any issues with equipment to mechanics, supervisor or any appropriate person. General Duties/Expectations • Comply with all company policies and procedures., • Develop new and existing skills through educational programs, • Good communication and teamwork with co-workers in the yard, drivers, sales staff, etc., • Positive, upbeat, helpful attitude to everyone you come in contact with throughout the day., • Positive, professional interaction, cooperation and communication with supervisors, • Manage and mentor all yard employees in their specific area. Give feedback on job performance., • Have a morning meeting with Yard Operations Manager daily to go over yard goals for that day, • Help train and educate yard employees on all aspects of yard operations, company procedures and policy., • Promote a positive, upbeat work environment that employees enjoy coming to each day and customers enjoy shopping at., • Perform employee performance reviews at least on an annual basis, but provide employee feedback on a regular basis, • Maintain appropriate staffing and schedule, • Communicate and document proper disciplinary action when needed Core Competencies- To perform the job successfully an individual must demonstrate the following: • Adaptability: accepts change, open to new ideas and responsibilities, • Attendance: arrives on time, ready to work.
