About the business unit We help conceive, drive, and implement transport solutions for cities, regions, and asset owners/operators around the globe. From preparing the business case and advising on related issues – such as revenue, procurement, and environmental legislation – to delivering the completed infrastructure and helping maintain it. In the UK, we continue to support High Speed 2 to deliver one of the biggest railway projects in Europe, have been appointed by National Highways to mitigate the risk of pollution from highway drainage outfalls across the country as part of their Water Quality Programme, and have secured new large highway schemes such as the Lower Thames Crossing and the A9 – Tomatin to Moy, adding to numerous other existing commitments, and are reinforcing our excellent technical teams in response to that. We are seeking a Senior or Principal Drainage Engineer with experience in both the Spanish and UK markets, and a solid understanding of drainage design to work with us part time or full time and strengthen our global team. As part of our team, you will be able to make a difference by: Identifying opportunities to pursue in Spain Leading a team of drainage design engineers in the design of sustainable drainage infrastructure on prestigious projects Contributing to innovative grey and blue‑green solutions and climate change resilience Embracing and enhancing digital drainage design delivery solutions Key responsibilities and duties include: Liaising with potential Spanish clients and identifying projects to pursue Lead a team of drainage engineers on prestigious projects across the worldBe responsible for the delivery of project(s), coordinating project team(s) to ensure excellent technical delivery within budget and programme Produce and review engineering calculations, specifications, drawings and reports, proactively managing design risk to deliver constructable solutions Represent the company in meetings, both virtually and in person, building strong relationships with our clients that will enhance our reputation and help secure further work Deliver projects in close partnership with clients and contractors Contribute to technical excellence and commercial success through forecasting and risk management, and the production of bids and proposals Work to Mott MacDonald’s global standards and review Health, Safety and Welfare alongside environmental impact Be present in our Madrid office a minimum of 3 days a week Qualifications Strong technical background in drainage design Experience in working on projects in Spain, and working with Spanish clients Experience in preparing successful bids in Spain Proven ability to deliver complex technical projects, ensuring compliance with relevant quality assurance and technical standards and supporting the development of less experienced staff Demonstrable experience in the management of small teams Strong communication skills with experience in effective collaboration across internal multi‑disciplinary teams Good understanding of designers’ responsibilities under Construction (Design and Management) Regulations Experience designing to the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges Experience in asset management and prioritising maintenance activities Able to travel to other offices and sites, as required Desirable We offer some fantastic benefits including: Benefits Competitive annual leave Life insurance An annual professional institution subscription Private medical insurance Optional benefits via salary sacrifice (restaurant voucher/transport card/day care voucher) Continuous development opportunities – because we want you to thrive Agile/flexible working – because life isn't 9-5 Wellbeing support including access to an independent Employer Assistance Scheme, wellbeing champions and access to learning and support resources Access to our Advanced Employee Networks which support our LGBTQ+, gender, race and ethnicity, disability and parents/carers communities Our employee ownership model means no external investors, just us, creating a culture of shared success.
