SD Group is a growing and ambitious e-commerce business based in Norfolk. As we enter the next stage of our growth, we are looking for a Head of People & Performance to work closely with the Directors to help professionalise the business, strengthen our culture, and build a more structured, scalable organisation. You will act as a partner to leadership, to drive improvements in management capability, embed clear standards, and create an environment where people perform at a high level. Alongside this, you will take ownership of the people function (recruitment, compliance, policies), with a clear focus on enabling performance and supporting business growth. The role will be based primarily at our Norwich headquarters with travel expected throughout the UK as required. Key Responsibilities Leadership & Business Partnering • Partner with Directors to shape organisational structure and support business growth, • Drive clarity in roles, responsibilities, and accountability across the business, • Coach and develop managers to improve leadership capability and team performance, • Support the transition to a more structured, performance-driven organisation, • Act as a sounding board and challenger to leadership on people and organisational decisions, • Lead on people integration for group acquisitions Recruitment & Onboarding • Manage end-to-end recruitment to attract high-quality candidates aligned with business needs, • Maintain clear role profiles and organisational structures as the business evolves, • Build consistent, effective onboarding processes that set clear expectations from day one, • Ensure probation processes are structured, objective, and performance-focused Performance & Development • Design and manage a clear, effective performance management framework, • Support managers in setting objectives, reviewing performance, and addressing underperformance., • Ensure development plans are practical, measurable, and aligned with business priorities, • Coordinate salary reviews with a focus on fairness, performance, and market competitiveness, • Maintain accurate training and performance records People Operations, Policies & Compliance • Maintain accurate employee records, contracts, and documentation, • Develop and implement policies that ensure consistency, compliance, and clarity, • Ensure compliance with employment law, health & safety, and data protection requirements, • Provide guidance on people matters, while ensuring ownership remains with managers Organisation, Systems & Process • Build and maintain clear organisational structures and reporting lines, • Improve and standardise people-related processes and systems, • Implement scalable systems for recruitment, performance management, and training, • Ensure strong record-keeping and operational discipline across the business Culture, Communication & Standards • Help build a culture of professionalism, accountability, and continuous improvement, • Reinforce company values through consistent management practices, • Support clear and effective communication throughout the company, • Raise standards across the business by embedding structure and consistency Skills & Experience • Experience within a senior HR & people management role, covering recruitment, performance management, and compliance., • Proven ability to work closely with leadership and influence decision-making, • Experience building or improving structures, systems, and processes, • Strong commercial awareness and ability to balance people and business needs, • Confidence coaching and challenging managers to improve performance, • Experience handling performance management and complex people situations, • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail, • CIPD Level 5+ or equivalent, • Background in e-commerce, logistics, or retail environments is advantageous Personal Attributes • Pragmatic, commercially minded, and solutions-focused, • Confident operating at both strategic and operational levels, • Calm and credible in challenging situations, • Structured and process-driven, with high standards, • Able to influence without creating dependency, • Discreet and trustworthy with confidential information The Opportunity This is a key role within SD Group, offering the opportunity to shape how the business operates and grows.
