Job Title: Head of School Location: St. Albans Reports to: Executive Head Teacher Salary range: £55000-£65000 Contracted hours: Full Time 42 Weeks (40hrs per week) Responsible to: Executive Head Teacher/Directorate Duties & responsibilities Leadership and management of the school • Responsible for the day-to-day running of the school site., • Manage & organise the school’s environment efficiently and effectively to ensure that it meets the needs of the curriculum and health and safety regulations., • Manage the school’s budget and resources alongside the Executive Headteacher, • Produce & implement clear, evidence-based improvement plans and policies for the development of the school and its facilities., • Recruit, retain and deploy staff appropriately, managing their workload to enable achievement of the vision and goals of school., • Ensure the range, quality and use of all available resources is monitored, evaluated & reviewed to improve quality of education for all and provide value for money., • Carry out responsibilities of this post with due regard to School’s Equality and Diversity Policy, Safeguarding policies, Health and Safety Policy and other School policies and procedures., • Manage middle leaders, developing professional culture amongst all staff at the school, • Support & challenge staff, dealing with underperformance effectively while making sure staff are given the support to do their jobs well, • Implement school’s appraisal policy, other management processes and systems, • Support implementation of school-wide and school-level policies, • Undertake self-evaluation & school improvement planning alongside the school-wide strategy to improve areas of weakness in school, • Support Executive Headteacher in recruitment of teaching & non-teaching staff where necessary, • Provide training & continuing professional development (CPD) opportunities for all school staff, • Identify areas of progression and promotion for staff that support succession planning for school, • Implement strategies - secure high standards of behaviour and attendance which reflect the school’s agreed values in their response to the needs of vulnerable individuals., • Challenge underperformance at all levels that ensure effective corrective action and follow-up., • Work with staff promoting high quality teaching across all subjects, • Determine, organise & implement diverse and flexible curriculum which takes account of the needs and aspirations of all pupils., • Implement effective assessment framework., • Monitor, evaluate & review classroom practice and promote improvement strategies., • Identify areas of weakness in teaching and implement, monitor & review interventions to improve areas as well as teaching and learning across the school, • Make sure school’s assessment system is fit for purpose and provides teachers with useful information about pupils, • Monitoring outcomes and draw out any patterns of underperformance in key groups of pupils, such as disadvantaged pupils, • Assisting development of appropriate curriculum, linked to the whole school curriculum, for learners ensuring learning experiences are organised in progression which supports the development of the individual student around educational targets., • Drafting curriculum units, schemes of work and programmes of learning (lesson plans) to support effective delivery., • Responsible for monitoring the delivery of provision., • Demonstrate principles and practice of effective teaching and learning., • Ensure consistent & continuous school wide focus on pupils’ achievement which reflects the agreed vision and values, using data and benchmarks to monitor progress in every child’s learning., • Lead in accessing, analysing & interpreting information to inform planning for improvement., • Develop strategies for improvement., • Ensure learning is at centre of strategic planning and resource management., • Establish creative, responsive & effective approaches to learning and teaching in line with the schools agreed educational vision and values, which are embedded in culture and ethos of challenge and support where all pupils understand their individual worth, can become engaged in their own learning and achieve success., • Help build on vision of the school and share with colleagues across the school how this is being demonstrated in the school, • Attend relevant governing body meetings, • Work with senior leaders to ensure school meets statutory responsibilities by giving objective professional advice and regular accounts of the school’s progress., • Contribute to development of education system by sharing effective practice, working in partnership with other schools and promoting initiatives, especially with other diocesan schools. The Welfare & Safeguarding Officer (WFO) is responsible for promoting the safety, wellbeing, and dignity of all residents within the accommodation setting. The role focuses on safeguarding vulnerable adults and children, identifying welfare needs, responding to safeguarding concerns, and working collaboratively with internal teams and external statutory agencies to ensure residents receive appropriate support. The WFO will ensure all safeguarding procedures are followed in line with UK legislation, Home Office contractual requirements, and organisational safeguarding policies. The role requires proactive welfare monitoring, accurate record keeping, and effective escalation of safeguarding concerns. Key Responsibilities – Safeguarding & Protection • Identify, respond to, and report safeguarding concerns involving children, vulnerable adults, and adults at risk. • Ensure safeguarding concerns are recorded promptly and escalated in accordance with organisational safeguarding procedures. • Complete safeguarding referrals to relevant agencies including Local Authority Safeguarding Teams, Multi‑Agency Safeguarding Hubs (MASH), Social Services, and Police where required. • Work in accordance with statutory safeguarding frameworks including the Care Act 2014, Children Act 1989 & 2004, Working Together to Safeguard Children, and the Modern Slavery Act 2015. • Participate in safeguarding strategy meetings and case discussions where required. Risk Identification & Management • Monitor residents using risk assessment frameworks including RAG (Red‑Amber‑Green) risk rating systems. • Escalate high‑risk cases to the Safeguarding Manager or relevant safeguarding leads. • Support the development and implementation of individual risk management plans for vulnerable residents. Incident Management • Respond to welfare incidents and safeguarding concerns occurring on site. • Complete Incident Reports (IRs) and ensure all incidents are documented accurately. • Liaise with site management and security teams during incidents. • Ensure appropriate follow‑up action is taken after incidents occur. Multi‑Agency Working • Develop effective working relationships with external stakeholders including Local Authority Safeguarding Teams, NHS services, Police, Social Workers, and charities. • Attend professional meetings where residents require coordinated support. Resident Engagement • Build positive and professional relationships with residents to encourage trust and engagement. • Provide guidance on accommodation rules, expectations, and support services available. • Support residents in understanding safeguarding and reporting concerns. Record Keeping & Compliance • Maintain accurate and confidential records relating to welfare checks, safeguarding concerns, and incidents. • Ensure records comply with UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018. • Contribute to safeguarding audits, inspections, and compliance reviews. We are recruiting for an experienced Registered Manager for a 3 bed children's residential service based in the Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire area. As a Registered Manager you will have responsibility for assisting the management referrals into the service from a variety of sources. • To ensure all children & young people in residence at the home are risk and needs assessed and that these assessments are regularly reviewed and updated., • To ensure that high quality support and transition services are provided to young people, in line with the service specifications/ placement plan required by the relevant local authorities., • To safeguard children & young people through sound management strategies, collaborative working with external agencies and emergency services and compliance with local authority safeguarding procedures, • Assist with the Management of Deputy Managers, Team Leaders and Support Workers within the Home, • Facilitate the development of a range of children & young people inclusion opportunities and activities with Support staff, working towards improving outcomes for accommodated children and young people, • Ensures the Home operates in accordance with legislations, standards and guidance e.g. Children’s Home Regulations 2015, Care Standards Act 2000, National Minimum Standards for children’s home etc, • To promote the participation of children and young people in the running of the home, including encouraging feedback and views, facilitating children and young people’ meetings, responding positively and professionally to complaints, and passing information to the rest of the staff team and partner agencies where appropriate STAFF MANAGEMENT • Provide line management, supervision and appraisal to Deputy Manager, Team Leaders and Support Workers in the home., • Attend the team meetings and staff are informed about the organisation’s strategic goals., • Assist day to day responsibility for deployment and management of staffing, • Ensure that all staff receive appropriate induction, training and development opportunities. To participate in the training of staff as required., • Assist performance management including setting targets, monitoring and taking action to address any performance issues., • Ensure staff are empowered to take responsibility and to work in a way that is imaginative and responsive to the needs of children and young people. Salary £55,000 per annum. £1,000 bonus on “good” rating, £2,000 bonus on “outstanding”! Monthly Bonus: £250, contingent upon achieving full occupancy targets.
