Rolling Stock Inspector - 3 SHIFT - Engineering - Hornsey ? Rolling Stock Inspector Location: Hornsey Train Service Centre The Opportunity Are you a technically minded rail professional who thrives on problem-solving, leadership, and keeping the railway moving? We're looking for a Rolling Stock Inspector to play a critical role in maintaining the safety, reliability, and performance of our fleet at Hornsey Train Service Centre. In this hands-on and highly visible role, you'll lead technical investigations into complex rolling stock defects, attend operational incidents, and represent GTR during service recovery activities. You'll combine technical expertise with strong leadership to ensure work is delivered safely, on time, and to the highest quality standards. What You'll Be Doing? As a Rolling Stock Inspector, you will: • Lead and manage teams to consistently meet Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and customer requirements, • Deliver maintenance and repair activities on time, within agreed budgets and performance targets, • Attend train failures and operational incidents, carrying out fault-finding, root cause analysis, and service recovery, • Conduct detailed technical investigations and produce clear, accurate written reports, • Ensure compliance with all relevant health & safety, engineering, maintenance, and quality standards, • Drive improvements in fleet reliability, increasing MTIN and reducing errors, • Support fleet performance targets, including availability and reliability, • Investigate workplace accidents and incidents in line with legislative and company requirements, • Assist the Depot Manager with staff control, development, and recruitment, • Deputise for Engineering Team Leaders and the Production Manager when required You'll achieve success in this role by: • Effectively planning resources to meet shift production output and SLA targets, • Maintaining a clean, safe, and well-organised depot environment, controlling risks and hazards, • Providing expert technical guidance and making sound decisions aligned with standards and legislation, • Identifying and leading continuous improvement initiatives across maintenance and operations, • Coaching, mentoring, and developing a motivated, customer-focused, and high-performing team This is a fantastic opportunity to take on a key leadership and technical role within a busy, safety-critical rail environment.
