Job Title: Quality Manager Reporting to: General Manager The Role The Quality Manager will oversee the entire Quality Management System, ensuring products meet customer specifications, regulatory standards (e.g., ISO 9001:2015), and internal procedures. The Quality Manager will monitor and advise on the performance of the Quality Management System and, by producing appropriate data, will report on its performance to ensure the System is functioning properly. Setting standards. Communicate any quality changes or system improvements (and their implementation needs), along with providing any training, tools and techniques that enable others to achieve minimum quality standards. The main tasks of the role are outlined below: Develop, implement and maintain a robust quality management system (QMS) to ensure compliance with ISO 9001 Apply productive quality processing and, by utilising technical quality knowledge and engineering/manufacturing processing skills, strive for reductions in non-compliance Apply responsibility relating to internal/external communications, standard operating procedures and overall company performance Create a bank of standard operating procedures and work instructions Develop, implement and maintain a non-conformance reporting (NCR) system for the business, conducting root cause analysis and implementing lasting solutions Take responsibility for any non-compliance resolution, implementing timely corrective or preventative actions and ultimately lowering costs Investigate customer complaints Support and participate in factory acceptance testing (FAT) of new machinery Improve the organisation’s quality assurance systems and increase manufacturing reliability through improved inspection processing Responsible for interactions with suppliers, sub-contractors and internal departments on any quality matter Responsible for the qualifying and approval of new and existing suppliers through the use of supplier audits Take full responsibility for incoming, in-process and final inspection of raw materials, bought-in items and machined/fabricated components Go beyond generic checking procedures and identify feasible, suitable and acceptable techniques that result in reducing “on the job” variation and, over time, develop a comprehensive set of quality practices including aspects of, but not limited to “Total Quality Management” Communicate changes and share quality knowledge effectively through appropriate use of written reports, verbal instruction, personal and group discussion and presentation with appropriate departments or personnel Discuss, agree and validate any quality proposals with the General Manager prior to any implementation or change Provide leadership when educating the Company on quality practice by proactively managing out employee misperceptions on quality Responsible, as defined in the quality assurance program, for activities such as audits, and the preparation of documents and records, ensuring the system is effectively implemented Liaise with other Company employees throughout the organisation to ensure that the quality system is functioning properly Responsible for the development and administration of in-house quality training Responsible for ensuring quality objectives are achieved Drive continuous quality improvement through methodologies such as lean manufacturing or six sigma. The role also includes other general duties to maintain the efficient working of the department. The above list of tasks is not exhaustive and the Quality Manager may be required to undertake duties as may be reasonably expected. All employees are required to be flexible and cooperative in order to assist in meeting business needs. Scope The Quality Manager defines, implements, and maintains the Company’s quality management system (QMS) to ensure products/services meet customer, safety, and regulatory standards, managing the entire quality lifecycle from supplier raw materials to final inspection, while driving continuous improvement, cost reduction, and compliance with national/international standards. Accountability and Performance Measures Maintaining and improving the QMS to ensure it is effective and compliant with standards. Ensuring adherence to regulatory and industry-specific requirements (e.g., ISO). Reducing waste, enhancing efficiency, and minimising non-conformities. Managing the customer feedback loop, analysing complaints, and implementing improvements. Working with the purchasing department to define and monitor quality standards from external suppliers.Training employees in quality procedures and fostering a quality-focused culture. Skills and Abilities Proven ability to manage, maintain and continually improve a quality assurance system Ability to acquire, analyse and present data to develop ideal inspection methods and to present and implement these ideals through agreement Proven ability in managing and developing a team Excellent problem solving skills Excellent communicator, both verbally and written Excellent listener Experience/Knowledge Knowledge of ISO9001:2015 Knowledge and understanding of productive quality processing A firm understanding of regulatory compliance for machinery including CE Marking and the EU Machinery Directive Experience in engineering and batch manufacturing Demonstrable working experience on quality systems employed in the manufacturing of components used within the food industry would be advantageous Knowledge of Internal Audits to ISO9001:2015 Qualifications Time Served Engineer Minimum BTEC Certificate and Diploma in Operational Engineering or Quality but ideally educated to degree level A trained Internal Auditor to ISO9001:2015 Ideally a fully trained Lead Auditor of the ISO9001:2015 Standard The Person • An excellent problem solver (processing a wide range of techniques and quality practices) who uses data appropriately and accurately to justify quality decisions made • An excellent communicator both verbally and in writing demonstrating confidence when making presentations to groups as well as individuals • An advocate for quality with high priority consideration for risk management and health and safety Health and Safety The person will familiarise themselves with the Company Health and Safety Policy and their responsibilities under the relevant current health and safety legislation. (Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 & The Management of Health & Safety Regulations 1999). Hours of Work: Monday to Thursday 8.00am to 5.15pm with a 30min unpaid break for lunch Friday 8.00am to 1.00pm Benefits / Salary • A competitive basic salary • Contributory pension scheme
