Field Engineer – North West England & Mid–North Wales Overview Fuel Recruitment is partnering with a leading telecommunications and utilities organisation supporting a critical regional network across the North West and Wales. We are seeking a Field Engineer to play a key role in the delivery, maintenance, and upgrade of a large-scale operational telecoms network. This is a hands-on, field-based role offering exposure to complex technologies, live environments, and nationally significant infrastructure. Key Responsibilities • Deliver project and maintenance activities safely, compliantly, and on schedule across a live telecoms network, • Support Project and Senior Project Managers with scoping, planning, and execution, • Install, configure, commission, and maintain telecoms and network infrastructure, • Diagnose, test, and resolve faults across IP, fibre, and RF systems, • Conduct site surveys and produce technical documentation and handover packs, • Adhere to Health & Safety, RAMS, and site compliance standards at all times Key Skills & Experience • Proven experience in a field-based telecoms or network engineering role, • Strong IP networking knowledge (LAN/WAN, routing, switching, MPLS/MPLS-TP – CCNA level or equivalent), • Hands-on experience with routers, switches, and firewalls (Cisco ASR/ISR desirable), • Experience working in live/operational environments (e.g. data centres, substations), • Familiarity with PDH/SDH and Nokia platforms (SAR-H, NMFP), • Experience with industry-standard testing tools:, • BERT, RF sweeps, PIM, TDR, OTDR, OSCAR, • Full UK driving licence, • SPEN authorisations (highly desirable) Additional Competencies • Strong analytical and methodical approach to fault finding, • Effective planning and organisation across multi-site activities, • Clear communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, • High standard of technical documentation and attention to detail, • Competent with IT systems (Microsoft Office & mobile applications), • Strong safety-first mindset with commercial awareness, • Interest in emerging technologies and continuous learning, • Unified Communications experience (nice to have) Benefits • Company vehicle and tools provided, • Opportunity to work on large-scale, critical national infrastructure, • Ongoing training and development, • Stable, permanent role within a growing engineering team
