Health & Safety Advisor - Rail, Civil Engineering, Earthworks and Fencing\n\nQualifications and Professional Membership\n\nTechIOSH, GradIOSH, CertIOSH or working towards Chartered Membership (CMIOSH).\nNVQ Level 3, 4 or 5 in Occupational Health and Safety (or equivalent qualification and/or relevant industry experience).\nNEBOSH General Certificate and/or NEBOSH Construction Certificate.\nRelevant rail industry health and safety qualifications and competencies desirable. \n\nKnowledge and Technical Expertise\n\nGood working knowledge of UK health and safety legislation, regulations, approved codes of practice, and industry guidance.\nUnderstanding and practical application of the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations (CDM).\nKnowledge of rail, civil engineering, earthworks, fencing, and infrastructure construction activities.\nAbility to support the development and implementation of safe systems of work, risk assessments, and method statements (RAMS).\nUnderstanding of contractor management and site assurance processes. \n\nExperience\n\nMinimum of 4 years' health and safety experience within construction, civil engineering, rail, infrastructure, earthworks, fencing, or a comparable sector.\nExperience providing health and safety support on operational project sites.\nExperience conducting site inspections, audits, workplace monitoring, and behavioural safety observations.\nExperience supporting incident and near-miss investigations and assisting with the implementation of corrective and preventive actions.\nExperience working with subcontractors and site management teams to promote compliance and continuous improvement.\nExperience monitoring health and safety performance and reporting findings to project and senior management teams.\nExperience delivering toolbox talks, safety briefings, and workforce engagement initiatives.\nAbility to provide practical health and safety advice to operational teams in a fast-paced construction environment. \n\nKey Responsibilities\n\nProvide proactive health and safety support across rail, civil engineering, earthworks, and fencing projects.\nUndertake regular site inspections and audits to monitor compliance with company procedures and statutory requirements.\nAssist project teams in the preparation and review of risk assessments, method statements, and construction phase documentation.\nSupport incident investigations, identify root causes, and monitor the close-out of corrective actions.\nPromote a positive safety culture through workforce engagement, coaching, and behavioural safety initiatives.\nMonitor subcontractor compliance and support effective contractor management processes.\nProduce health and safety reports, trend analysis, and recommendations for project management teams.\nSupport the implementation and maintenance of company health, safety, environmental, and quality management systems. \n\nAdditional Requirements\n\nFull UK driving licence and willingness to travel to project sites.\nStrong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage effectively with site operatives, supervisors, managers, clients, and contractors.\nSelf-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a project team.\nProficient in Microsoft Office applications and digital reporting systems.\nFlexible approach to supporting projects across rail, civil engineering, earthworks, and fencing operations. \n\nWe are an equal opportunity employer and value diversity in our company.
