GENERAL OPERATIVE I. J. Preece & Son Ltd are looking for a General Operative to assist our construction team on projects throughout Shropshire and the surrounding counties. We are a family-run construction company specialising in the conservation and restoration of historic buildings as well as highly skilled general contractors. The role will involve: · Following instructions from supervisors to perform manual labour tasks (e.g. digging, demolition, mixing muck for trades, etc.) · Assisting a variety of trades (carpenters, bricklayers, masons, painters, etc.) where required · Maintaining site cleanliness · Handling and transporting materials, tools and equipment · Helping to set up and transfer temporary structures (e.g. scaffolding) · Using power tools when needed · Report issues with equipment or unsafe conditions Skills required: · Ability to meet the physical demands of the job (e.g.: standing for long periods of time, lifting heavy loads, etc.) · Communication and teamwork skills · Commitment to safety rules Experience of the construction industry would be beneficial but is not required, as training will be provided. A can-do attitude, approachable manner and willingness to help colleagues of various of trades is vital to the role. A valid driving licence and means of getting to work is required. Hours: 39 hours basic. Working days are typically Mondays to Fridays with potential for overtime in the summer months. Location: Due to the nature of the construction industry, our building projects are undertaken in a variety of locations. Candidates will ideally be located to serve the needs of our clients across Shropshire. Travel and fare allowances are paid where applicable.
